I've mentioned this in other threads, that there IS a market between the Mustang GT w/Performance Pack and the GT350. Something to rival the SS 1LE

There is a rumor that Ford is going to release the Mustang GT with a "Level 2 Performance Package" with wider wheels and stickier tires than the current PP. Although I hope it's wrong about only being available on the premium package cars.

My guess would be it would also include Brembo's at all 4 corners, possibly 2 piece rotors up front, trans and diff coolers, and possibly the Magneride suspesion stock.

Keep in mind that the SS 1LE rivals the GT350R at least in lap times when driven by Randy Pobst. So a tweener step for the mustang won't really compete unless there is some other special sauce that even the GT350/350R don't have. Both cars turning 1.28.29 at Willow Springs Big Track while the new ZL1 not the 1LE turned a 1.26.19 and I would consider the ZL1 more of a competitor to the GT350R IMO but maybe that is a different thread.

Regardless of performance I applaud Ford's efforts the 1LE is one of the best enthusiast oriented factory options because of its focus on track reliability and heat management and I can totally see why some people prefer the mustang for an every day car especially.

The "tweener" step is PRICE.

There is a $20k different in MSRP between a 2018 GT w/PP and a GT350. Wider stickier tires and the extra cooling. Done I'll take so I don't have to kluge together some aftermarket stuff.

Yeah, the only downside to a truly track ready package from the dealer is the track day insurance cost.frown

^^ main reason to not track  a daily is that extra 150ish per day but if you are buying a 50k car maybe its worth the extra money to drive that kind of car on the track?

Last time I checked it wasn't the bad.

But if the cost of track day insurance is keeping you off the track, you probably aren't the target market for a car like that anyway. Unless you're buying it to look cool at Cars and Coffee.

Exactly.

Plus I like the look of the Mustang better and the sound of the 5.0 better. Any of the cars mentioned are above my skill level and would prove equally fun on track I'm sure.

All I know is that on the drive in this morning, a cool red Mustang and I were traffic buddies.

I suspect that the gap would be even wider.  The Camaro chassis is really, really good and easier to drive at the limit.  I still like the Mustang better though.
