I want to widen a Dana 35 by three inches. Can I just lengthen one half shaft? I don't know how they arrived at the stock u joint location as as is nowhere near centered to begin with. It is roughly 15 inches on one side and 24 , so on the other. The u joint does not seem to have any relationship with the axle pivot points. But I am worried about binding.

Gotta do both at prob 400 for new shafts and if your are going wider Why not a D44 ttb as they are wider than the d35 + stronger? iirc d35 is 59" and d44 is 65".

The offset is sometimes due to the fact that it came out of a truck that was offered with 4WD. The transfer case output shafts are most of the time offset to one side so the axle have to have they input offset to match.
