In the E250 project series, Tom mentions using this site to look up the van's options, where he discovered it had keyless entry.

Our 2004 E450 chassis motorhome came with one keyless remote that didn't work, so I ordered a pair off eBay. When I try the programming sequence of getting inside, unlocking the doors with the switch, and cycling the key from Off to Run 8x in under 10-seconds nothing happens. Per the instructions those steps should cause the locks to cycle, but they don't. I've tried pressing each button on the key fob anyway, but that doesn't cause anything to happen either.

So before I dig into troubleshooting this I wanted to find out if keyless entry was even available from the factory on a 2004 E450 and/or figure out a way to decode my VIN to see what options it might have that I'm unaware of. Does anyone have access to run the VIN through a Ford dealer?

I'd probably start with a call to a Ford Parts Dept:

"I'm calling to order a new clicker for my newly purchased E450.  It came with a clicker that has never worked.  But, before we go forward with that order, let me give you the VIN to verify that a clicker should work with this model."

If that conversation yields that it should work then balk with," I'm gonna try to program this old one one more time and I'll call ya back. "

In reply to John Welsh :

That's a reasonable idea. I'm just so dealer-adverse that I'd have never considered calling them voluntarily. ;-)

Make sure you call it a clicker so they know you're old.

I can barely form cognizant sentences anymore, I'm sure they won't have much doubt.
