The Lethal Locost fills Bucket List #1 vehicle of a Lotus 7.  I will keep the car until I can no longer get in and out of it, and then it will go to one of the kids. Each of the boys had a ride to the first day of Kindergarten in it.

Bucket List #3 vehicle is my 1961 Chevy Apache.  It's come a long way from this pic (in the process of painting it now), but I tell myself that it is my "keeper," and that when I hang up the keys for good, it'll be THESE keys.  Mainly to stop myself from getting bored with it once it's built and then getting rid of it.

Bought my first car in 79. By 84 I'd had a couple dozen, not including a dozen or more parts cars and pickups. $50 to 200 for parts, cars or pickups. For drivers, all less than 2grand - most less than a grand. A few DD cars for a couple bills.
Same trends, with higher prices and nicer stuff after that. The first thing I ever bought, that was not for sale, at ANY price, was:

my 48 Ford F6 COE (F6= 2 1/2 ton COE is cab over engine - I've had folks try to get snotty if I don't explain, others if I do!)

bought in late 98 to tow my camper )66 Airstream at the time.) around the country to contract jobs.  DD for two years. 7 states. Driven around VA for 4 years after that.

Prolly never get to drive that again, but it's still around.

Prolly have some 03 or newer Panther platform around the rest of my life, but doubt it would be the same one. Mine runs great, but is driven way to much to last, unless I die too young.
Wanted to put my wife in the Lincoln Panther, but the 94 Roadmaster might be her forever,  if traffic idiots allow her to!

I for one would not mind more details on that F6.  And I promise I won't get snotty.

No worries about snotty, on a cool azz car on here!

Just the general public.
Daily driving it for several years, I found it took 20 min. to stop in. 7-11 for a soda! Almost always had a crowd. 90% were cool and awesome, but that remaining 10... WOW!

it started life as a 1948 single cab flatbed 2 1/2 ton work truck.
Guy I bought from in SC had a body shop he only did custom in. No collision work.
Being a chebby guy, he set the cab on a GM one ton dually frame, got the front fenders how he liked 'em. Built the 8' step side bed - 79 chebby side rails on full size fleet side bed bottom (one of few ferd parts!)

the amount of space between is how far he stretched the cab.
Had a BBC at one point, but it fails on the way home from turkey rod run. He drove it a lot, also!

He slapped a SBC in it; but found a gmc COE, and his wife told him if you build the gmc, one of the others had to be sold.
that's when I got it.

Oh, yea. It finally stopped driving it around local (still in VA at time) when the water pump started peeing out the weep hole.
It was not built very sturdy, so actually using it like a truck was hard on it. It needs to come all the way to the frame, and put it back - exact same look, but with out all the corner cutting he did

Had only been setting about a year when I got married and moved to AL. Planed to change the water pump and drive it... it had only been on a trailer once in its life. But ran outa time that summer, and could not take chance of time for roadside repairs. So I did it a injustice, and trailered it!

I grew up right around the corner from your family... threechopt rd, Hampton. Was in NN, Roxbury or Chester when not on the road. Got married and moved the home base to Newton AL (outside  Ft Rucker, for unrelated reasons) in 08. Hasn't been driven since. Stored in carport for half that time (degrading badly) and outside for too long now.
Cotton has seen it. It's pretty rough.

only guy with a shot of getting it for about what it's worth, is still in Hampton (Todd's lane, just before it goes over I64. I remember when they built that, and the pond. One of the cranes that helped build that pond, is still at the bottom!)

He is even in my will! After I die y'all can all have all my tools and toys. But Rick gets the COE!

I would probably sell it, since if honest with myself, I'll never finish it. But, it would be cheaper/better for a guy to buy a cab out of the west, and start from scratch.

When I got it for $6K (probably have 12 in it) I bet 200 folks in the first year offered to double my money "right now". Most were prolly full of it, but one guy did hand me ten, and I gave it back.
He was cool.  I did keep his number. Rest went in round file.
I told them all, not for sale, at any price. Some would get haughty "everything has a price" I told them OK, $30 K. That's about what it would cost for me to replace it!  "Your nuts! It's not worth anything close to that"

remember the part where I told you not for sale? Idjet.
Im hard core Lynyrd Skynyrd fan... in 01, Artumus Pyle (their drummer) offered me $20K for it, but his friends say he's way too tight with a buck to have done it!

I don't see myself getting rid of either one of these, ever. I've already had the Trans Am for 20 years now, and the truck for 3. I'd like both to be "nice" someday, but I am enjoying them as they are and fixing the mechanicals and making them somewhat reliable. Other projects will come and go, but these two are here for the duration.

Hampton VA was one of the last venues before the crash. I was in school in Chester then, and several friends drove down the 80 miles to see the show. My folks were NOT having that! Did drive down to Norfolk for a New Years show few years later, for the Charlie Daniels / Ross. Collins / 38 special show, with skynyrds members. Played Freebird instrumental, with Ronnie's hat on the mike for the encore. Claimed no one from Ronnie's friends would ever sing it live again. I was sad when they started singing it again, a few years after that. One of those concerts in 90 maybe, artumus talked about being a marine... with the last name of Pyle. Funny stuff. Someone through a empty Jim beam bottle, and he came out front PISSED!!!

came out after next song to apologize... didn't know Jim beam had gone plastic bottles !!! Threw it at his own head, and got huge laughs !! Good times. Shame we all got old since then.

Not attempting to threadjack but you went down the rabbit hole.  If you haven't seen this one, it's a gem.  Beautifully preserved.  https://youtu.be/QxIWDmmqZzY

By "nice", I mean no more rot holes, interiors that don't leak, and maybe A/C. Painting them one single color is entirely optional.

If it had to be forever, 2 cars that I have owned would be tied for that position:  ironically, both were built in 1992.  I once owned an Infiniti G20 that handled like it was on rails, terrific little car.  The other was a Honda Civic CX that had had the engine, transmission, and wheels upgraded with Acura Integra parts. The chassis had also been stiffened/braced every way possible.  That car accelerated like no other car I have yet, owned...but I retained the " stock " appearance.

Unfortunately, I don't own either, anymore, but always look on Craig's for another G20.

This one I bought in 2016 as a mouse home that had been sitting 5 years in the bush with the valve cover off and a hole in the block. But I've owned a 3g Prelude since my first car when I was 17 in 2004.

Dang. Nice job.
