Interesting story. Hard to believe these have just been sitting in NYC.

Poor cars...I guess that is a better fate than what they were planned for.

(man I hate fat fingers- I just typed up a big reply, all of it deleted by a couple of keys hit at the same time)

I'm not so sure you are right on that. I have been fortunate to meet Peter Max, and talk to him about this specific thing. His painting idea wasn't to paint them all like art cars, but to blend colors from bottom to top. Much like the Mako Shark Vettes.

Peter is really good at blending colors along a surface- so I expect it would have looked really cool.

He was looking for a SINGLE buyer to this whole project. So finding a Max + Vette enthusiest with a lot of money and a lot of space. And since he wanted to find the buyer before starting, that obviously never happened.

Granted, it would have been all about money, but a lot of people are that way, too.

It was pretty cool to talk about it- he was still quite excited about the cars. It was a while ago- probably 2007.

It's a shame he didn't invest in some car covers and keeping them exercised... but as mentioned, Max isn't really a "car guy" and to him they were just "things" ... oh well. The post I read on Hemmings Daily by the original winner's brother was interesting. Tried to take the "easy way" and got hosed.
