Hamilton managed to kill his penalty fairly effectively! That sprint race was a real bonus for him, even erasing part of the power unit penalty. The sprints have not been good for him so far, it's nice to see him take advantage for once. And the boy can drive.
Let's hope Bottas can get in Max's way for a little while tomorrow so we can have some fun.
So, I'm trying to understand why you think he took care of part of the powertra8n penalty.
Isn't the penalty applied today?
I misunderstood. Everything is read said he was starting fifth thanks to the sprint race. He's starting 10th. So never mind.

I was hoping you knew something I didn't!
Should lead to a good race!

Considering the passing by the rest of the field, Lewis could have very easily started in the bottom 5. For him to start only 5 behind the target was pretty amazing after getting that 5 min major. Lewis has one of the best PK's on the grid.
I'm on lap 9, and wowsers, Lewis has stuff going his way so far. Valteri, not so much.
That is exactly why I don't like Max. Lewis was ahead going into the corner, and Max drove them both off the track- very dirty racing.
And for those of you who think Lewis gets all the breaks- yea, you can stop with that, Max clearly got away with some bad driving..
There's some real skill there, passed cleanly, and didn't weave all over the road.

Hamilton is an absolute monster in that car.

And then drove away cleanly. At least Lewis didn't drive Max off the road.... What a dirty driver Max is, which is what we have known for many years now- he's even crashed his teammate out before.
That was a heck of a race. Max was slower but had track advance, so he did everything he could to keep it. Once Lewis was out front, he just disappeared. And that was a nicely set up pass.
I've been wondering all season if Lewis was still suffering from the effects of COVID. He's been out of breath and he's made comments along those lines. All it would have to do is take off 0.1%. Today, he looked to be on full form.
Max does NOT make mistakes under pressure, it's impresssive. He might make bad choices, but they're not by accident :)
In reply to Keith Tanner :
Right, Max does not make mistakes, all of those issues have been fully intentional. He passed Hamilton by forcing both cars off the track and gaining an advantage. Lewis, on the other hand, kept it clean and drove away.
Lewis also forced Max into a compromise into turn one, that meant the DRS was far more effective going into turn 4.
And one should also consider the number of clean passes Lewis made all weekend- 25 grid spot penalties, and he still won. Many of those passes were on other cars with DRS.

100% They're both incredible: Just raw, consistent - talent.

So, you're saying he's the only one who had DRS? Or that the wing they took off the car for scruitneering BEFORE the race somehow helped him pass everybody? Lewis put on a show this weekend, he was in a class of his own. Well done!
Just a few more unsolicited thoughts - it's really good to see the passion in Mercedes this season, Toto and the whole team and Hamilton. You can feel it, Drive to Survive is going to be absolutely insane.
Gasly is REALLY good - he's been driving the wheels off his AlphaTauri. Hard to pay attention to him with the madness at the top, but he's good.
Riccardo didn't have a fun weekend, but is also looking back to form, that makes me happy.
Very hopeful about the new regs and all these phenominal drivers mixing it up....
Brilliant race!
Those passes reminds me of the Mansell vs Piquet and Senna vs Prost duals

I also think Kimi should get some kudos- starting from the pit lane to 12th is pretty impressive.
And Norris had a really good recovery race getting into the points (barely).
But I think it's going to be Ferrari over McLaren- they were quite dominant over the two McLarens, even if both finished.
In reply to alfadriver :
Very true, what a shame he had such bad luck in the sprint....
So much happened (especially after Mexico...) - Brazil is really just magical.
That race is a pretty good example of why I think Lewis is a better race car driver, and racer, than Schumacher was.
I see Toto is being diplomatic..
After the snooze fest from last week that was an excellent race! Lewis was on fire. Also good racing through the field.
