This ones for the other Canadians in here

Especially when there's a spending cap. Doesn't matter where the money comes from if you've spent all you're allowed to spend.
I agree and the cap is exactly why I think this is Latifi's last year.

I think trying to get the other team to cough up money is not going to end well. It does seem reasonable to create some kind of budget cap exemption for certain crash repairs though, presumably subject to "new parts must be the same as the ones that got destroyed" sorts of restrictions and perhaps some kind of pro-rating on engines/etc.
I keep coming up with F1 Insurance (sponsored by Lloyds of Londen, as something like Geico is too low-rent). They insure against damage caused by other drivers, with enough of a deductible that it's not worth putting in a claim for floor or front wing damage. This third party determines responsibility and who pays :)

Also in the series, the in-car screenshot of Schumi turning in to Villeneuve. Although that had a different outcome.
Unbreak!
Pretty Good race!
Go Albon! The entire race on 1 set of tires with Pretty good pace! Finished p10!
Mercedes looked better than expected and so did mclaren.
Where the he'll did Alonso pace come from on Friday and Saturday?
Lewis' pace relative to Perez was promising. And I'm pretty sure that if George had managed to open up 0.2s more on Perez to get out of DRS range, he could have held on to 2nd. George also needed another 0.2s to get into DRS behind his teammate mid-race, this may be his relative inexperience - managing pace and blasting out a couple of fast laps when required. The cars are definitely able to follow closer this year than they could in the past.
Leclerc had that race well under control. A well-deserved win.
We have now had 5 powertrain failures of RB powered cars in 3 races.
About Albon - could he have pitted on the last lap and finished the race in pit lane? Might have cut a few more seconds off the time in pit lane :) I'm not sure what the purpose of that particular stunt was but it was nuts.
Thankful that this is fixed, my account was also messed up so I couldn't even log in. It was a tough 24 hours!
I know that when you get down on someone (or something) it is easy to pile on. Latifi, way down, getting lower. His brother in rich daddy Canadian arms didn't look much better either. I have always thought Stroll drove competently but this was not his best show. The ousting of the other pay driver and his replacements competence so far has me strongly believing the the super high quality driver pool may be shallow and fleeting. Seeing young George be able to go blow to blow with his team mate is making me think that the pool of super talented (they are all super talented I mean drivers that stand out to their super talented peers) drivers may only be ~5 people deep right now.
Also a rough weekend for Sainz. There is an interesting F1.com article that outlines some of his troubles this weekend and how they just kept compounding. It is a sport of mm's.
Pretty promising race, McLaren has gotten back on track- not fully where they were from the first test, but back in the ballpark at least. That was great to see.
Alpine qualified well, but the strategy... yikes.
In terms of Albon pitting, I think that's no longer allowed- after Schumi served a penalty on the last lap, and finished the race in the pits without actually dealing with the penalty. That, and if Albon did pit while on the last lap, he would have finished the race before changing tires- given their pit position.
Red Bull has so many fuel system problems. That look like other problems. Max's fire didn't exactly look like a fuel sourced fire- especially when they were blaming the problem within the high pressure system, so there would be fuel being blown out of the fuel lines for quite a while as the pressure dropped.
Mercedes is getting there. Still have a MASSIVE amount of bouncing, though- they clearly have to lift, wait, and the brake so that you know you are not going to bounce off the braking location.
Haas- where did you go?
And Ferrari- man, is that a fast car. Seems that the race would have been a lot more entertaining watching Sainz pass through the field. Big shame he spun out.
The Mercedes weren't visibly bouncing the way the Ferraris were during the race. There was one corner in particular where the red cars were pogoing all over the place. Leclerc was paying for that speed, I'll bet it wasn't comfortable.
My apologies to Verstappen fans; my son and I stayed up to watch it live, I jokingly did the "Dennis Jenkinson hex hand motion" at the TV when they were showing Verstappen go past.......................yup two laps later the car broke. Apparently Jenks wasn't lying it does work.
As a Ferrari F1 fan of 46 years I'm enjoying see them up front. As a Hamilton fan I'm hoping Mercedes can get the car sorted.
Overall an entertaining event for sure. Some surprises and some constituent issues with RB reliability. I was hoping to see Danny Ric do better in front of the home crowd after a strong quali. I wonder how far cranked up the Mercedes motors are with how much their pace improved. They did seem to have a much more settled chassis than the last races.
The fact that the Ferraris were seemingly bouncing more than the Mercs (and were still fast) makes me think that the Merc issues may actually not be related to the bouncing. Perhaps the power unit really is the main problem...

Carlos just had a crap weekend all around. Red flag on a good quali run. Then, car won't start, so no tire prep time, so go off and start tenth. Then, steering wheel fails a minute before the start, and settings are not right, so anti-stall and lose half a dozen positions, then dive into a pass out of frustration on lap two and try to channel dad's rally skills, but no.
Go home and try again...
And Seb probably wishes he'd just stayed home.
This season is really looking like the 2009 season to me Ferrari (Brawn) is leaps ahead of everyone and Leclerc is developing a bid lead.
Did not see single moment.....at the mercy of ESPNHD on directtv waiting patiently Sunday eve and what do I get PRO TAG ?!?!?!!!! WTF. Was there at least some decent racing/passing?

There were some pretty good scraps the whole way.

If you go to the ESPN App (not ESPN+, just the app), can you log in with your directtv account?
I watched qualifying via the app (thanks to the Masters), and last summer, we watched a few of the races via the app when camping.
I have said this before and I don't get commission but the F1 TV app is worth it to me all year long. As soon as I woke up I turned on the race. I had the option for full race 30 minute highlights or the regular length highlight. (I don't remember exactly the time but less than 10 minutes). I also stream all of the practices which is cool.
That said I know I am a little extreme. I also had flo racing but I let it go because I could literally watch racing every day and I didn't want to alienate the wife and kids!
You'll need to log in to post.
