Judging from the fact that I can see my tent in the paddock, I think that particular image is from the 2019 Rok FWT. Speaking from experience, the asphalt continued to shed sand all weekend, leading to very slick conditions off line and engine problems for those of us not running air filters.

Yeah, that second shot is looking upstream from the exit of 19. So an incident in 19 will be at my door.

Vettel has become very outspoken in his older age. He was wearing an interesting t shirt coming into the circuit.

If you can't read it, it says Miami 2060. First underwater grand prix.. Action now or swim.

Watching FP1 now.  Looks like Mercedes upgrades are working, Russel 2nd on the time charts, Hamilton 5th so far.

EDIT: I think i heard the Sky sport commentators say the projected lap times would be 1:35, the Ferraris are down in the 1:32 range already,  Lando looks good, has McLaren in the top 5 so far.

Bottas spins out, hits the wall at Turn 7.  Session red flagged at 24 minutes left

Looks like the Mercedes experiments worked and they say they are trying a few things this weekend to give them an idea which way to go. This is encouraging for their fans. I wonder how hard it is to make a wind tunnel have wind speeds up to 300 km/h so they could actually test before getting to the track?

They have Mario in the booth during the FP2 red flag session.  They asked him if they had the budget and an engine deal in place to enter F1 in 2024 and he said 100%.

Did Vettel wear that shirt as he flew over on his private jet?

It's all lipstick but that track does not look like it is in a giant parking lot at all, you'd think the Saudi's with all their money could've done a better job when you see that.

The Mercs definitely seem to be in it this weekend, with Ferrari and Red Bull running right at the front, I think they'll be below 1:30 in qually. They claim this is a low downforce track and that's why no one is having the bounce issue.....or maybe they all just figured it out?

Vettel also was protesting the regulatory underwear and jewelry nonsense by wearing his street underwear outside his race suit! It was pretty funny! smiley

40% chance or rain each afternoon this weekend, could make it real interesting if it does......

I feel like Florida rain results in red flags, but hopefully it's quick and they aren't slow getting the cars back out and racing compared to what we have seen in the past where they drive around behind a safety car for no good reason. You can see there is a lot of drainage around the track so they look to be prepared.

But the problem with Florida rain is the lightning that comes with it.  They will not allow safety workers to stay in areas where they could be hit by lightning.

Currently waiting for qualifying to begin, but from what I've seen in the "W" series race this track layout is vastly superior to the 'serving spoon' at Jedah .

The Mercs look like they are still bouncing like a pogo stick.  Major traffic jam at the end of Q1

Nice to see some drama to finish qualifying, with the Ferraris taking the front row right at the last moment.

Mercedes is better, but still have a massive way to go. Clearly a really hard car to drive seeing Russell struggle like Hamilton has.

I guess the way to light a fire under Lewis's ass is to enforce a meaningless jewellery rule.

And the Alfa guys sure screwed Valteri car back together well.

I don't think jewelry hurts anybody but the driver in an accident so I'm not sure what the big deal is but precedent has been set, Lewis has been wearing the stuff for years and years and they should consider him grandfathered in.

Regarding the meaningless jewelry rules. It is a safety rule as are, helmets and firesuits etc. They are there in case an incident goes in a bad direction – for instance fire.

In that case the medical / hospital people will already have a lot to do when you are brought in. Are you breathing properly, are your heart other organs functioning properly, how badly ad how much of you is burned, are there other injuries (head, neck, bones, lacerations) etc. They may need / want to put you through an MRI. Do you really want them to have take the time to determine if the stud on your pud is magnetic or do you want them to address the items I mentioned?

Also, while someone is dealing with the dumb-arced stud on your pud the other patients may have one less medical / hospital employee to attend to their real needs.

Of course if you think the medical / hospital personnel’s time is “meaningless” let them know the next time you’re at the ER.

Seeing as he's already had MRI's with the piercings he can't take out, and the F1 medical team would be the team with him if he crashed...

I'm not sure how well it will race, based on the one line situation, but that's a pretty fun looking track for a parking lot.

Well, I think anyone who drives a nail through their body for decoration is an idiot, but it's their choice.  If they lose an ear in a fire, so be it.

I understand the safety aspect, and by the latest media reports Lewis does too. It's just the timing of it is a bit suspect is all.
