Ocon will not be happy with his teammate. Alonso really boned him by driving around with the handbrake on and backing up the entire field for no benefit.

I think I saw two passes on track, both by Gasley. Is that right?

I always rooted for Alonso in his non F1 endeavors however his F1 antics seem to suck. The sitting in the pit incident on his teammate was my first ? But he just seems to cause chaos when he can.

Well, after all the discussion this week of when Checo would get to finish ahead...laugh

Nicely managed.  I figured Carlos was making the right choice staying on wets to go straight to slicks.  Close...so close.  Had Charles chosen that route  he probably would have won.

I think.  Keeping track of the tire situation was a big ask today.

I was thinking the same thing. I guess the question is still unanswered though. Would RB have swapped them if they were 1-2 and not 1-3?

Either way very happy for Checo.

I'll bet Checo is very glad there was no opportunity to answer that question.

Of course they would have.

They might have asked, but would Sergio have complied?  Maybe a super obvious "Pull over just before the checkers so Michael can win, but everyone knows" situation.

I think they've got a point at least with Max who looked like he was on the line in the replay's we saw. Just doing a quick re-watch of Perez's on board it's not as close/obvious. Should be interesting, not sure why it was overlooked during the race but not the first time RedBull have gained an advantage by ignoring what should be black and white pit exit rules. Once again though the FIA is to blame here as it should have been dealt with during the race rather than ignored, why do they get the easy stuff so wrong?

To Redbull's credit though their strategy was on point while Ferrari's seemed to be non-existent. Ferrari needed to either react to Perez with one of the cars right away to cover him or stay out with both cars until it was time for slicks knowing Redbull would likely need that second stop as well. They just put themselves into the worst position possible giving up track position at Monaco where that is pretty much all that matters. Sainz got held up on his out lap a bit by Albon but not enough to make the difference to Perez.

It's quite clear max crossed the line, and right in front of the Ferrari.  But, a Red Bull case full of $1,000 bills seems to have made it go away.

We left at the red flag, and didn't miss anything. The new cars didn't make a massive difference in the racing at Monaco, apparently.

Being able to follow closely doesn't do anything at Monaco. You need the cars to be 50% smaller.

If anything the cars ability to follow was clearly shown with the really tight train behind Alonso and the 1-4 train that existed for quite some time.

Two things

1) Go karts for Monaco. This would allow room for passing.

2) Ferrari has the worst strategy, Red Bull & Mercedes almost always undercut or overcut to beat them.

Oh, I would love Monaco to be a one-off kart race that keeps all the same teams and drivers. That would be awesome. All these guys started in karts anyhow.

That was quite a traffic jam at the end there. And was there a brief shot of an Alpine in the wall as well.

So that's the race decided then. congrats to Charles on winning the home race for almost every F1 driver :)

So, you already know that Max isn't going to finish?  So far he has won every race he's finished this year.

I have heard that statement over and over from the announcers. It's like saying "the best handling FWD car", there's that big qualifier. You could also say he's failed to score points at every race he hasn't won :)

Past performance is no guarantee of results, especially when you're on the second row in Monaco.

Oh, I know... just want to stir the pot a little.

I did have to laugh when Checo won Monaco, is totally still in the WDC fight - and RIC finished out of the points (again) and the talks of him being out at McLaren at the end of the year continue to grow louder. The results speak for themselves.

Yeah, I was surprised nobody else tried that. Everybody seems to try to pass through the Nouvelle Chicane but it is so tight there I don't know how it is even possible. Not much easier where Gasly pulled it off but at least seemed like a move that could possibly be duplicated.

Then again, it is Monaco, I'm just holding out hope that cars can actually pass.

It would be great if they could modify just one part of the track to setup an actual passing zone so that teams could run their own strategy and not just get shutdown by a car 4 seconds off the pace. The cars are always right on each other coming down the hill through the hairpin so maybe if they opened up the corner leading into the tunnel that could potentially work and then massage the next chicane so that two cars could actually get through it together (this is F1, they could float in some extra track just for the race at that chicane, everything else with this circuit is temporary). We're never going to get multiple passing zones with the current cars and the race still isn't going to be spectacular but at least strategy would come into play. The track has been changed/tweaked many times over the years so its not like this is unheard of.

Well, they want to get buts in seats and holding a race where said butts can easily get to the track seems to work.....at least in the US. Not a fan of street circuits myself, but I see the logic.

Yeah, this is a good question. I wonder if they could move the Nouvelle Chicane down a bit or open it up so two cars can actually make it through there side-by-side, or something to that effect. There has to be a solution here. I'd hate to lose Monaco as a race, but you can't have "Alonso's" holding up half the field every year.

I think it would be really cool to do Monoco like the MLB/NBA AllStar weekend.  Put it in the middle of the season.   Have all of the F1 circus for keeping B2B people happy.  Do FP1-2 Friday then do single car qualifying on Sat with some amount of championship points awarded in normal F1 cars.  Then Sat FP3 is replaced with practice for sunday's main entertainment event.  The teams + 1 guest driver with a current competition liscence from some list of recognized international sanctioning bodies (could be anyone the team wants so Nascar, Indycar, WEC, DTM, Supercars, their reserve driver) compete in a some spec car purely for entertainment.  Qualifying would be Via 4 lap heat races with the main being some 35 lap thing with all 30 drivers.  Use some small low Downforce open wheel type car that has harnesses and a crash structure so there isn't much unecessary risk to the drivers.  Make sure it is something that is fast enough that it looks quick, but squirms around to give most opportunity for drivers to show of talent.  The goal would be to entertain just like the major sports "All Star" events do.  Mike the drivers up so they can talk during the race and drive fan engagement.  The +1 drivers could show off talent from other series/markets to expand F1 appeal.  No championship points would be awarded on Sunday but teams would get a prize pool to give to a charity of their choice.   It keeps Monoco relavent for the qualifying competition in F1 cars but offers something special that doesn't exist in F1 otherwise.  I would 100% watch every minute of this.
