Was shocked they sacked 2 top dudes effective immediatly after spa, seems especially arrogant even for the french to think they can carry on better without replacing them.

LOL-I told a friend who is a Max Verstappen fan that I wanted Max to win this years Championship posthumously and he didn't think that was funny at all
Alonso must have sniffed something in the air last year when he jumped to Aston......he has to be feeling very smug right about now.
I feel for Ocon and especially Gasly......he went Alpine thinking that it was his ticket to the front row, and considering they were 4th in the championship last year he had no reason not to think they could do at least that well this year.......but now? I agree, they will start looking more like HAAS.
It will be interesting to see Renaults plan. It seems like they must have something in mind, but is it a plan for future success, or preparing the division for sale? They have spent a long dollar over the last decade or so, for a dubious return on investment. Make it go, or make it go away.
I lean towards the make it go. The big investment they got could be a Williams sort of situation, I suppose. Change everything about the company except the name, then Renault writes one cheque a month out of the advertising department?
Rambling...

Listening to The Race, the core problem is a lack of direction, and therefore a plan. Both short and long term. Alpine brought "the project" without explanation of that, and given how the last few seasons has gone, it's pretty meaningless. If they were tying to establish what Alpine is, it's been a pretty solid failure since they have no real definition based on f1.
If it happens, it will be interesting. But I see Renault like fiat, so there are real corporate overlords looking over the shoulder of the team. Just that they are French instead of Italian.
Oof. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that HAAS is tied to Russia given their F1 sponsorship. Yeah yeah, they made an outward show of things but kept making sales in the background.
So Haas has a distributorship network which usually requires the distributor to maintain stock. War breaks out and Haas tells everyone to stop selling to Russia (including their Russian distributor). Distributor still sells, Haas ends partnership, and Haas still gets blamed.
Now, a Chinese distributor is selling through a few shadow companies spares to Russia and Haas gets blamed.
Back from summer break this week, found this graphic that shows how competitive the season could be.

That's pointless. Without the "other" Red Bull, whoever would be driving it, this means nothing. Assuming that driver is around the same level as Perez there would probably be a couple or more wins for that person.

It wouldn't even be a record, it's been done before.
Just how fit are F1 drivers? Valtteri just finished 20th in the 100 mile gravel race in CO - 6500' of elevation change and a starting line at nearly 7000' elevation. He averaged nearly 19 mph.
I went for a ride on my gravel bike yesterday morning. On paved roads/bikepaths for 12.5 miles with 500' of elevation change, I averaged 15 mph. I wasn't trying to win a race but I'm pretty sure I could not have done it 7 more times without slowing down.
He also won the costume competition dressed as Duffman for the hillclimb, winning his weight in beer which he donated to the spectators.

The point, for me, is that the season has been really entertaining, as long as you ignore Max once he gets to first place.

Heh. IIRC, Jenson Button used to go bike riding with Lance Armstrong -- that's fit. :)

Lance isn't exactly in his prime anymore, lol.

Lance in his 50s is probably more fit than 99.9% of people, though. Plus, he's not getting tested anymore, so you know....
On driver fitness, back in the late eighties there was a study where they put telemetry on several drivers including Lyn St. James. What they found was that a pro driver enjoyed the equivalent of...
Doing aerobics....
In a sauna....
For 2 hours straight...
Without a break...
While making a 1000 decisions each second.
Super excited to attend the Dutch GP this weekend! Buddies have been daring me to wear an Anti-Max tshirt but don't think I'm that stupid...
Curious to see how the first race after the summer break goes.

That sounds awesome - would love to hear how it went and pics when you get back!
I'm trying to line something up in the 5 year window to get to a race.
