Ok, since no one else is saying it. Any bets on who replaces Logan Sargeant at WIlliams next season? I felt bad for the guy after he binned the car twice this weekend, albeit in challenging conditions.
EDIT: looks like the team is taking the blame on him going out so early, power steering failure https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/motorsports/hydraulic-problem-causes-sargeant-s-crash-in-dutch-gp/ar-AA1fSUun
There's been a bit of chatter about Mick going there if Logan doesn't step up. Toto has ties with Williams and would like to see Mick on the grid.

I have to say, it sucks that the wet tires are bigger than the dry ones, leading to pit lane speeding penalties that should not really happen like that.
It's F1, it should not be difficult for the car to figure out what tires are installed and adjust the pit lane limiter appropriately.
Le Mans uses RFID trackers in the tires, they're read when the car exits pit lane. So it's certainly possible. Or you make it something else the driver has to do, like traction control and ABS.

It's pretty clear that Williams picked Logan because he was an American as opposed to anything specific he had done on the track. His performance is about what you should expect from a Rookie driver who's never won a Jr. Series Championship and was 4th in F2 last year. He's driving an F1 car that's in the bottom half of the field on pace and you'd expect him to be trailing Albon (who's only managed 15 points this season even though he appears to be doing a really good job). If the "America" money never materialized I think they'll move on, but if he's been good for sponsorship I think you can say everything is going per plan. Hopefully he improves as he gains experience.

Alex Albon didn't do all that well in his first couple years either. Yes, some of that was Red Bull pressure, but he had a lot of crashes.
Also, on the topic of the wet tires being taller and that triggering rule infringements, a couple of decades ago they were doing single-lap qualifying/pre-qualifying. One time it rained early in the session and dried out as time went on. The Minardi cars were running last in the session, decided to risk swapping slicks onto the car, and wound up P1/P2 in the session. Alas it was not to be, because they had forgotten (or not had time) to raise the ride height of the car by 10mm to compensate for the shorter slick tires, so they got disqualified for being too low. So people have been getting tripped up by this difference for a long time!

It probably would have helped Logan spending another year in F2, in F3 he had a shot at the championship. However its F1 and time is ticking. The car itself isn't great and on top of that it's setup to Albon's liking. I have followed logan's career pretty closely and watching what he did in karting was nothing short of impressive. I don't think Herta would be doing any better, Logan is the best option for F1 at the moment, Jak Crawford would be the next best but I think he is pretty far from Logan and those below them are not f1 material. It's nice to have a American to cheer for in the F1 races, but I would be just as happy if Jak and Logan were in Indycar kicking butt.
I hope Williams can see the value in Albon and Sargeant. I think similar to McLaren they have a good stable set of drivers. For the team as a whole, they have a lot to do internally rather than worry about their driver's. Just stay put and focus on getting their manual lathes replaced with some modern mfg equipment.
The horses are prancing at Monza, Ferrari is fastest on the Medium so far in FP2
There's probably something in the secret rules that requires all the non-Italian teams to run 1% slower at Monza to get the fanbase something to dream about.

Also Carlos' birthday energy is helping. Extra marinara.
Ferrari on pole at Monza! Carlos is the Man today..

Now we wait to see if they get a significant penalty for going too slow in q1.

Just keep the strategy together. I'd love to see Carlos get a win at Monza of all places.

No penalty, apparently. Their reason for violating the maximum time was that they had to pull aside to allow faster cars to overtake so the stewards gave them a pass.
Well done, Ferrari!
I think Max will win it again tomorrow, but it should be a fun race.
It's been great to see how well Albon is going and the improvements Williams has finally made to get to the midfield on a regular basis.
No idea what the heck happened to the Alpines to finish SO far down the order.
I think we're in for a good race tomorrow!

Bummed I couldn't make the Monza race to cap off my EMEA trip with another F1 event. I'm psyched to see quali order getting switched up. Ferrari has had dark times and could use the boost. As per normal, Redbull's race pace will be dangerous.
i did have the chance to spend time chatting up the Aston Martin Team Thursday evening as they were staying at my hotel jn Milan. Nice bunch of young guys and all true gear head fans.

Glad on two fronts- that the directive exists, so we avoid that debacle not long ago; and that it didn't result in a bad penalty. The rule worked, other than a minor mess in the last corner.
At least the Tifosi have something to celebrate, as I see max winning tomorrow.
It would have been very difficult to get non-Italuan police to Monza to protect the stewards, had they given Ferrari a grid penalty.
One lap shorter race. Oops
Looks like the DRS advantage for Red Bull isn't working as well here. Verstappen can't quite catch Sainz and Perez can't get past Russell
EDIT: spoke too soon, carry on.
The earned penalties to add at the end didn't mean much. Which is good for Lewis, as that was a questionable move right.
That was a really good race. I've said this before but Max post 2021 is much more tolerable, I have to suck it up and say actually personable. The naughty comment while following Sainz was straight funny. I couldn't help but think of he bailed out of that turn against Lewis in 21 like he did today against Sainz I would have probably softened on him earlier.
In reply to NY Nick :
Mrs NYN just pointed out that my expectations of Max prior to 2021 are not realistic. He is only 25 now. I think most 22 y/o's have a little room to grow emotionally!
Sainz did a hell of a job to earn the 3rd spot on the podium. Lots of poise under pressure.
That was quite a watchable race because you couldn't just breeze past on DRS. Passes were hard but possible. Watching the Ferraris squabble for 3rd was fun, it's been too long since we had an intrasquad scuffle like that.
Hamilton really put the hammer down once he got past Albon, he opened up that gap in a hurry to avoid the penalty.
Carlos winning 3rd with a slower car was great. Also greed DRS isn't automatic at Monza and that is refreshing as is letting Leclerc and Sainz COMPETE not fight. One of the most entertaining races of the year so far.
