I'm not sure Danny needed to be #1.  But I do think he needed to be respected.  Remember Max caused a nice crash for the both of them, and I'm pretty sure Horner sided with Max over Danny.  Personally, I think once that incident happened, he wasn't going to stay.  It's one thing to favor a #1 driver as the #1, it's another to take his side for incidents that are caused by him.

At this point, I even openly question if the two cars are even the same.

We shall see what happens but I don't see Tsunoda doing markedly better than the others.

But what if Yuki is better off and faster in the current car........

That's precisely what I want to see. Is it the driver or the car? Yukon certainly is willing to bet his career that he's got the talent so let's watch. I'm no RB fan but Yuki is super scrappy and I'd love to see him prove everybody wrong in that thing. If he started to be a consistent top third finisher all of a sudden then it only makes the racing and constructors championship more exciting.

Making the car more "drivable" would make it slower. For most drivers this trade off is worth it. But Max can handle the "undrivable" car, and thus he goes faster. You should never intentionally knee-cap the performance of the best driver in the world just so his teammate can move up the board a little bit.

There are lots of interesting articles and videos out there about how the theoretical fastest F1 car is one with lots of front down force and thus a very sharp front end. RedBull can "dial it back" less than most because Max can handle the car like that, and thus they have been generally very quick over the last several years while his teammates have struggled.

Well, maybe?  The team doesn't get any money for the WDC but the position in the constructors' championship pays.  The fact that Perez struggled in their car through 2024 is a major contributing factor that Red Bull was third and got a haircut when it came time to distribute prize money.  If they fixed their damned car maybe Max would get dialed back a little, but having two cars consistently in the points would help bring home the bacon.  Having the second car qualify nearer to the first would also give them more options in race strategy that might compensate for any reduction in raw performance, too.  Right now, they're basically a one-car outfit.

I read a article yesterday that wrote about how Yuki is actually going to improve the car with his feedback and experience, something that Liam was not able to do (lack of experience). However we don't know the inner working of the team and if Max has the power to veto, if Newey was essential in that process ect... Perez was crashing the car alot last year which cost them a lot of money, so basically Yuki just needs to be in the top 10 and not crash and it's a win. If he doesn't do that, I am guessing that Hadjar will move up to that seat, but I don't know if Yuki would go to RBJr or be sent to the driver pool. I wonder if the team already has a back up plan in mind? It seem if Liam doesn't do well that Calpinto will take his seat (if the price is right). However Doohan hasn't don't much to keep his seat.

If they can improve the car so that it is faster while being more stable I think that will just result in Max going even faster with his pointy setup while the second driver has a fighting chance in the top ten rather than tooling around at the back with their confidence destroyed.

The team doesn't have to "knee cap" Max for the sake of the other driver, they just need to be willing to fiddle with the keyboard and tune the damn car differently for the 2nd driver.

By all accounts the RB is too on the nose for everyone but Max,surely they can dial some out if willing to trade a bit of outright pace for consistency.

Sounds like they'd rather keep throwing bodies at it until they stumble upon another alien-tier generational talent who can harness it. Perhaps Max being too good has kept RB from seriously considering drivability changes. Perhaps those changes to the car are too core to the design to simply tune out for a 2nd driver. RB have designed and managed their way into a tough corner.

Yuki is the headline news. On page c2....

Will Sainz get up to speed with Albon? I am surprised he is having so many troubles.

I do think Russell is in the title fight. Mercedes seemed to be getting a handle of their car last year. It still sucked but they were starting to figure out the suckiness sources. Russell's performances don't feel like a fluke, but real pace.
