I agree that next year is looking like it's going to be exciting. I keep hitting refresh on the Ferrari website so I can get the official Lewis Ferrari hat when it becomes available. I don't understand why Formula 1 keeps changing the rules every few years. Can't they figure out a good ruleset that can be stable for a long time? Again, I could fix the rules if they would just listen to me ;)

Yuki to be passed over again, is this a Honda leaving thing? Gasly I think is faster then him, but is Liam really that much better?

My guess is with very limited testing, and now budgets (relative to what the big teams used to spend), if a team starts a new "rules era" with the advantage it's very difficult for the other teams to be able to make up the difference.

Honda comitted to Aston Martin. So they can only push out Alonso for yuki. Which isn't going to happen, even with the bad blood between them.

Worst kept "secret" in F1

Show of hands - how many thought he would be behind the wheel of a Red Bull in 2025?

Nobody. Not even Checo......

I have a lot of respect for Lewis and the things he's accomplished, but I think it's time for him and Alonso both to take their many millions of $$$ and retire.

I don't think the inflated ego's in their head are letting them exit F1.

I think the Riccardo exit was the worse.

I wonder what Checo is going to do next, alot of the IMSA and WEC rides are taken, and in indycar there is only DCR left as Conor Daly is named the Juncos driver today.

If Checo is still bringing Carlos Slim money, he'll always have options.

No question, money is the big motivator in racing both for the driver and the team, and who can blame them?

I would counter there's other drivers on the grid that should leave before either Lewis or Alonso if we talking about current abilities.

Why would they leave; half the grid isn't driving at their level. I'd bet both of them would drive for free.

Lance Stroll should be well before Alonso and Hamilton. He actually holds back his dads investment

I am going to hold back comment on Lewis for about six months.  As a fanboy, I would like nothing more than seeing him win his 8th, with a 3rd team.

I don't think that's likely to happen, but I will be watching.

Alonzo might be the right guy at AM for a year or two.  Can he contribute to Newey's design, or is he going to fall back into the whining with which we are so familiar.  "It's an F2 engine!"  "The car won't turn."

Checo will be in a WEC car or similar next year.  He is a journeyman, with cash behind him.  Somebody will put him in something.

Liam Lawson is set to replace Checo Pérez at Red Bull Racing in 2025 season. Red Bull has confirmed.

I have a fix for that. In my F1 rules, on the Monday/Tuesday following 4-6 races during the season, teams are allowed to test their cars on the track a set amount of kilometers based on their Championship points. The more points they have, the fewer kms they get for testing and all teams must run junior drivers. This way, slower teams get real world testing at real speeds, junior drivers get seat time and none of this costs very much because they are all there at the track already. This would result in teams being closer on track

In reply to Tom1200 :

The performance of the Ferrari and Mercedes at times were close, Ferrari probably had the better car but it's razor thin. I don't know if Hamilton was driving at the level of Charles and Carlos, I don't think it's fair to compare the driving ability of a HAAS/Alpine/Williams/VCard to a Mercedes, but based on how much faster Russell has been I would think his level wasn't going to get him a championship. There will be a lot of pressure on Hamilton and attention on him, his style of car is not advantageous I would imagine that Charles will be fighting for equal rights on development. I think Hamilton would need to channel is 20 year old self to be in championship form. Alonso has advantageous role at his team over Hamilton with Newey and basically doesn't have to lobby to personalize everything on his car, which I am sure that Hamilton will, but will it set Ferrari back. Alonso mentally can get in his own way and even at his peak at the beginning of the year he wasn't at the level of drivers of Mclaren and RB. Towards the end Gasley, Calipinto, and Haas were looking better then him.

Even if they both channel their younger-selfs I think RB and Mclaren will be better then both of them, like what are they proving by finishing 5 or 6th in the championship? They are both extremely popular, they leave and viewers might go with them, F1 is still a business.

Both guys are dragging the car forward.

Russel is phenomenal but Hamilton has been experimenting with the car in and set up in an attempt to improve it.

Alonso is more fired up then ever.

Couple those facts with their knowledge and I'd take them any day over a whole host of talented younger guys.

Tsunoda was just not consistent enough. Part of the season, it was Ricciardo taking Checo's spot, then he fell off. Yuki looked relatively good then, until Lawson had decent form.

And over the years he drove with RBR jr, did he ever show an entire season that should have moved him to the Sr team?
