Damn. That's a good trailer.
Practice was exciting. Carlos Sainz putting the Williams to the top of the practice board times was intriguing. Hamilton seemed to be struggling with the Ferrari, and Bearman did not bring his car back in one piece... not what you want to do as a rookie.
Excited for this season!!
I think the step they made was hiring Carlos, cause Alex is about where he usually is - 6-8th. I'm a little surprised at Hamilton in 12th in FP1, we'll see what he does in FP2 and 3 and qually.....
Is this a Sprint weekend? Cause I thought I heard it mentioned that it was a Sprint weekend for F2?
In reply to MiniDave :
FP2 had Hamilton up to 4th, and the Williams' down in 10th or so. So who knows what's going to happen.
Let alone, is it going to rain or not?
In reply to Tom_Spangler (Forum Supporter) :
That's a movie to look forward to seeing on the big screen! And there hasn't been much lately to bother going to see.....
In reply to alfadriver :
In the dominant Mercedes era, I seem to recall they often weren't fastest in practice. They were actually practicing, not trying to win. So I'm going to withhold judgment on speed until quali.
Wet races are always good, especially ones that transition. Remember the race where Lewis turned a set of inters into slicks?
In reply to Keith Tanner :
It's tempting to stay up and watch qualy and the race this weekend. Just to see who is really fast.
Would there be any interest in a GRM fantasy F1 league? I am in another local friends league, I would be happy to set one up if people want to join.
In reply to NY Nick :
OK I just did it. he league is called GRM F1 Fantasy. There is a link and a code to join below. It is free and pretty easy to set up a team.

F2 is always a sprint race weekend. Each weekend of racing they do a sprint (no pit stops) and a feature (pit stops). Sometimes the races are barely different in length.
This is not a sprint f1 weekend. Next weekend is.
Lewis has a history of exploring setups thru out the practices and doesn't really show the true pace untill quali.
He didn't seem to like how the front end was working yet so being 4th after Q2 is promising....well for a long time Lewis fan at least :)
Just finished watching qualifying, the top drivers pretty much as expected, but Williams got both cars in the top ten! (Albon 6th & Sainz 10th). That was nice to see and a good start to the season :)
If I'm counting correctly, 7 manufacturers in the top ten. One of them Williams. Both cars.
Wow.
And Yuki, trying to prove stuff.
Seems McLaren threw out the sandbags for Q3.
In reply to Streetwiseguy :
Yeah, good qualy session. Williams are easy to root for, i.e. small team boxing above their weight, spending the past years out in the wilderness etc.
Good qualifying session, everyone was pushing through every session. Hopefully the rain makes the race interesting tomorrow and isn't too much.
Time for Sebring!
Just saw the highlights. So, once again, we see how testing can be deceiving. After all the talk that Red Bull was in trouble, they still managed to get 3rd. Just like the end of last season. And both Ferrari and Mercedes hasn't made the progress testing suggested. Both are fast. but not RBR fast.
Too bad for Antinelli- saw that he damaged his floor, which doomed his qualifying. Not shocked about Lawson- that's how RBR chooses the #2 driver after all. And Hamilton has closed on LeClerc from testing, too. Tsunoda was epic in qualy.. And I really want to be optimistic about Williams, but they got to Q3 multiple times last year- the real indicator will be the race. Here's hoping!
The tech discussion of the raw gain that McLaren has was interesting- pretty much everyone was even going into turn 13- the tight end. And everyone gets the main separation from there on. Basically, it's about how much over temp the rear tires are going into that corner. But that also suggests that McLaren *might* still struggle in the wet, since they manage the tire temp so well in the dry. So tomorrow should be interesting.
The Ferraris were a bit of a disappointment, but every thing else pretty much went as expected.
The difference between the "seasoned" driver and the new rookie in each team was pretty apparent, also expected.
Isack Hadjar had a decent session, didn't he? Almost made the top 10 in 11th place and best of the rookie class in his Vcarb.
Sauber and HAAS are just nowhere, sad to say.....I like rooting for the plucky underdogs and last year HAAS at least had some good races.
The midfield this season is going to be crazy!
Rain is always the great equalizer, fun to see some of the backmarker teams shine when it gets slippery.....
