I think they used to match them and even have driver initials on them but then the strategy was out in the open for all to see.

I just read a story where Merc explained the whole story. They had 2.5 seconds from safety car call to pit in for Bottas, and the tires they had set up were intermediates, prepping for rain. They had to lose the inters and grab the ultras. Also, the radio call to Lewis was borked because of Bottas being stuck, and time, and confusion, and Aaaaahhhh!!!
You're one of the least capable drivers on the F1 grid. How do you move up the grid? If your Lance Stroll you ask daddy to buy Force India after his money didn't help Williams! Various reports popping up. Some say it's done, others say it's about to be done.

So, who gets the boot at F.I.? Ocon and Perez have both done outstanding jobs, but Ocon seems to have the momentum in his career.
In reply to Adrian_Thompson :
Again, lets not forget that Ocon being at FI is part of his long term deal with Mercedes. So since Bottas has resigned, that only means Perez. Who did manage to score points for FI.
Man, money can be a mean bitch in F1.

I didn't think about it until now but what if Ricciardo got a big big deal with Renault. Sainz and Hulk are great but haven't proven to win a race yet. Maybe a full Factory team for Ricciardo would be enough pull to risk the unreliable Renault engines in a growing team vs unreliable Honda engines in the team he knows.
Maybe his is the last seat of choice right now holding up the landslide of moves or stagnation.
And Thanks Spool! You may leave now.....

The really silly part about the whole thing is that he should have just driven through. And the engineers should have known that. The time lost would have been minimal under the SC, unless there's a rule that if you enter, you must stop. But I doubt that rule exists.
Mercedes really isn't good at SC events and pitting.
In reply to Advan046 : Renault can't build a decent chassis, I think that is why Ricciardo stays. Renault can be equally as unreliable as Honda and both have a power differences to Ferrari and Merc. Unless Vettel and Hamilton leave, I think it will be the same results until 2021, maybe Vettel can sneak in a championship in one of the years.

Dammit, I was like, "Bottas resigned!?!?" and went looking for the news I missed. Then I figured out what you meant.

The power of a missing hyphen.
Wow wow wow,
Super exciting qualifying! I am so excited for Torro Rosso hopefully they will fight hard to stay up front! The Honda power deficit should not be as much a factor.
I do have many fears of a first turn mega crash. Sainz, Gasly, and Hartley aren't usually starting around Vettel and Verstappen, plus the Haas guys like to play rough.
If Hamilton and Bottas stay 1-2 by lap 2 they one of them has a good chance to win. The Ferraris are faster but maybe not fast enough to easily pass but they could do it on track. The RBs are going to have to rely totally on pit strategy.
I am looking forward to the race tomorrow.
Too bad that Force India has fallen. Even if they get restructured into a new team, they may lose a lot of the people that made them so good up until now. Maybe Jackie Chan Racing will buy them and bring a bunch of PRC money with them.
Most far fetched is that Stroll and Michael Lee-Chin will make them a Canadian team.
Kinda boring race.
Some action at the end.
I'm glad Danny made it back past bottas after the touch.
I'll be curious to see what if any penalties come out of this for bottas.
I see Bottas as being wrong not to let Vettle clear him, but probably no penalty to be awarded there. As far as Ricardo, he took a big risk trying to go around the outside when he knew Bottas was under steering and it didn't work out, but Bottas will probably get penalized (undeservedly in my mind) for that one.
Is F-1 on the radio in the USA ? or somewhere a free web stream ?
I tried listening on BBC 5 and it was blocked for the USA.
Thanks for the info....

Bottas was not penalized for the Vettel incident- that came out as the race ended, and given that he gave Danny the spot back, I doubt he will be penalized for that, either.
It's interesting how much thinking the do to cover the other drivers. Given what happened to Kimi, Mercedes had a few laps to see what would happen and still be able to clear him, if he needed to pit. Instead, Bottas had to run those tires forever. Not sure if I agree with the notion of covering all the time...
And while it was nice to see the Ferrari's behind any car and not pass, I still hope they find a way to set the aero rules so that cars that are that much faster can pass.
Heck of a weekend for Lewis- lots of experimentation got him the pole, and with Valteri behind him, he was easily able to control the race.

Based on the recent news, it looks like Perez will at least stay- https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/perez-heartbroken-legal-action-force-india-administration-mallya-1065229/
Wow.
There was a question asked prior to the race to Sergio, and I was dumbstuck when I heard what they were asking about. Found some news and am pretty surprised. Perhaps this means that the next steps for team are back up.
I liked the race. Interesting mix of tire strategy. I was fascinated that the McLaren team ended up so high.
I thought Vettel's best move was brushing back Sainz at the start. The pitstop delay ended his chance to win.
Hamilton put together a good race the challenges were all negated by his pace difference to Bottas.
Sainz , Hartley, and Grosjean just tumbled backwards. Vandorne must be sick to lose points again. Erricson is starting to get on par with his teammate. Ricciardo had a hard fight to the front.
For some reason I watched one of those "best of team radio" from this weekend, and if I understood that correctly, they have the driver's drink hooked up to telemetry????

No, you will not have the drink.

No, you will not have the drink.
But is it switched on?
In reply to alfadriver :
So what I posted the other day that Pappa Stroller has bought Farce India looks to have been premature. They were saying that once it's stabilized they expect Perez to stay and partner Stroll at FI next year and Ocon to go to Renault. I hope it works out well for all concerned and that we don't loose another team.
