Maybe he still thought he could bring it home to the pits.
He sure didn't look at the left front tire, because it was wiggling around like a two year old that doesn't want to be carried as he pulled away from the collision.
If he'd been looking at his tires, he'd have crashed anyhow :)
I guess trying and crashing is better than giving up. These guys (especially not Max) are not programmed to give up unless there is no other option.
How did Lando end up finishing in P11 when he didn’t finish? How does that work?
EDIT: just read the answer on Reddit. Didn’t realize it worked that way. Thought he and Giovani were both DNFs since neither crossed the start finish line after the checkered flag.
I think he would have been the first car one lap down, wouldn't he? He rolled across the finish line to start the last lap, so everyone else a lap down would have crossed the finish line to start the last lap after him... Right?
DNF doesn't kick in until you are three laps down and not running, or something along those lines.
Yeah. He started lap 44. So he ended up finishing at the end of the leading lap cars. The guys behind Lando in the finishing order were all a lap or more down, so P12 crossed the line after lap 43, but Lando was on lap 44, so ahead.
I just assumed if you didn’t take the checkered you didn’t finish, but it goes by distance/laps covered. Must complete at least 90% distance/laps of the winner to avoid a DNF.
Am I the only one that would like to see HAAS choose someone from the Ferrari Driver Academy or F2 front runner? I think there model has really plateaued. Roman can't be consistent Hulk can't podium, there is just too much talent out there to hire them. I give HAAS credit on how they started the team but they can't be happy with 2019 team especially since they are only ahead of Williams in the manufacturing standings.
Streetwiseguy said:The obvious answer is Kurt Busch. He already has Haas coveralls.
And the attitude to fill those shorts......I can see it now KB and MaxV scrappin' after punting each other at 'Variante Ascari'(Monza) molto buono!!!!
That was hilarious... Just the games they are allowed play. Mclaren stopping at the end of our lane then thought Ferrari was backing everyone up so just Vettel would make it onto a flying lap but they all botched it. Good on Leclerc and damn Kimi spinning. Lucky they allowed the other red flag times to stand.
That was super funny- gaming themselves so badly that nobody got a final lap. Everyone lost that one, except for LeClerc.
What a blown opportunity for Sainz too! Of course we couldn't watch the ONE car that was driving for an actual time on the track, so I don't know if he was going full tilt or whatever, but it seems like he had a great chance to move up a spot or two.
In reply to wae :
With nobody in front of him to tow him along here couldn't improve his qualifying time.
Sounds like just another parade lap - kinda like the races.
Ya know, these guys are supposed to be the best of the best so quit pampering them and give them 2 or 3 lap qual laps ( only a couple cars on track at a time).
Oh, and go back to gravel traps. If they can stay out of them perhaps they aren't up to the task.
Gotta be a penalty or two for holding Lewis back. He was trying to get to the flag, but couldn't get clear.
It probably worked out about right for start order, other than Seb and Albon.
And the Renaults are shockingly quick. Race pace, we shall see.
Keith Tanner said:You haven’t watched any of the recent races. Guess how I can tell?
Yeah I've read that some of the more recent races have been pretty decent. Except for a friend who records F1 I stopped watching when it became parade-like. But mostly 2 teams plus 1 guy isn't really interesting to me. In the past 60s - 80s I loved F1, I worked the Long Beach race as often as I could. Right now Indycar puts on much better / competitive races. That's my story and it is stuck to the bottom of my pants.
Am I the only one who really misses the Will Buxton grid walk interview portion of the F1 pre-show? Brundle just seems so damned awkward.
