Basically, the race started at the back before it started at the front. That doesn't work out.
I think Kvyat caused a bit of the issue there based on Russell's onboard. Kvyat left a gap and then ran up to the pack exiting the last turn. And the Renault and Russell then had to avoid him braking once he got to the pack. I don't think my of the drivers should be penalized though.
Crazy but fun race. Very happy for Albon.
Gutted for Williams, before the last red flag I thing he was on for 8th.
I thought this analysis of the safety car restart was pretty thorough, basically a bunch of smaller gaps closing in the front of the mid pack plus the hill on the front start of the straight did it for the back of the mid pack.
Gutted for Logan Seagent, was level at Race 2 in a accident on the first lap, championship was over . Hopefully he gets a shot at F2.

That's a good analysis. It really kind of starts with Ricciardo, who gapped enough to start the accelerating and decelerating. And it just gets caught up a few concertinas behind him. Poor Mags- who did a good job keeping the gap to Russel small the whole time. The only driver (besides the leaders) who stayed close like that.

Definitely. I get the impression Lewis wouldn't have really pressed to make a pass during normal laps, but when he had a chance to take the lead during the restart he wasn't going to back down.
I agree those wrecks are why a reverse-grid start would be a questionable idea at best.
I'm not sure that the crash(es) on the safety car restart are necessarily a perfect analogy to a reverse grid, though. It wasn't a case of mechanically faster cars getting caught out by cars that just couldn't go as fast. The problem was that the back of the pack was in full send mode while the front was waiting to go. With a reverse grid start, all the cars will be trying to accelerate as rapidly as possible at basically the same time. Yes, the Williams isn't going to accelerate at the same rate as the Merc, but the speed differential won't be quite so extreme.
I'm not saying that I think that a reverse grid a good idea or a bad idea, just that this isn't really the same situation that you'd have.

I agree, if F3 & F2 then F1 can do it. I think Toto wolf is probably the most powerful man in F1, when he is against something, it likely won't happen. Different then the Party Mode ban which Toto used as motivation for his team.

This is my view. The F1 guys don't need to look at Indy car or Sportscars. There were races at the same track on the same weekend that didn't have such a screwed up performance. I initially thought it had to be someone weaving for tire temps and clipped another car somehow. But instead they all started trying to get their tires heated too aggressively and then built up these big gaps to try and get a run and BAM.
Edit: Maybe the quote of yours is in reference to the reverse grid? I thought it was about the restart in general. I don't think we need reverse grid races. But I liked the idea someone had of required the use of all THREE tire compounds in each race.
In reply to wae :
My reverse grid reference wasn't the restart(s), it was Max going backwards through the field and causing a massive back up, which causes an accident. Bearing in mind that it's pretty often that the top cars are +2 seconds a lap faster than the bottom cars.... The number of back ups going into corners on the first lap- because everyone knows that's the lap to get the most places easily... it would be a mess.
In reply to alfadriver (Forum Supporter) :
Oh, yeah, that does make a better analogy to the reverse grid. I had seen several comments and articles in other places talking about the restart incident being an example of why the reverse grid was a bad idea and I guess I just had that in my head when I read what you wrote. Sorry about that!
No worries! :)
And here's The Race's view of the accident- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEKH_LPqjJ8&ab_channel=THERACE and they show that it started with Albon, then Stroll, and it amplified until there was a stopped car with Mags. Just like on the freeway at rush hour- where a sneeze can result in a 30 car pile up.
I wanna see moar races at Mugello. And I've added yet another track that I rly, rly wanna drive on...
I only watched the "official" F1 highlight reel, but is it crazy the extent to which "around the outside" works as a passing maneuver into Turn 1/San Donato? I must be missing something...

Just the right amount of banking. Just like a real race track.
The very long straight with DRS helps a lot there too.

And a fortunate lack of tire leftovers off the main line.
A weekend off and now on tho sochi!
Not a favorite track of mine but somehow the racing can be interesting there.
McLaren might show well. MB need to worry about tire wear? I don't think so unless it is very hot. RB maybe another podium for Max coming.
Curious who will bring updates and if the factory effect for Renault will allow them to give Ricciardo a car for a podium.
I kind of hope it's the last home F1 race for Kvyatt. But the RedBull academy is empty right now I read unless Tsunoda can get on the podium in these last few F2 races.
In reply to Advan046 :
Tsunoda is awesome!
He has had bad luck this year or he would have another win and another podium.
I think he will replace kyvat next year for sure.
In reply to wvumtnbkr :
I thought he was all set after the second F2 win. But then I read an article some time the week before Mugello that said he still needs another podium to get a super license. I think even the sky commentators said something similar.
Curious if HAAS will go with Perez and a Schumacher for next year.

From Time
Lewis Hamilton is someone I’ve idolized. He’s poised to win his seventh Formula One championship this season, tying Michael Schumacher’s record. Seven is a magic number in racing. Dale Earnhardt Sr., Jimmie Johnson and Richard Petty have each won seven NASCAR season titles. Lewis, 35, is young enough to keep winning championships and setting new all-time records.
I’m the only Black driver in NASCAR’s top level. So Lewis’ example—as the lone Black F1 driver—is particularly meaningful for me. He shows we’re out there doing it. To see him conquering the track damn near every weekend, it motivates me to try to do the same.
His activism has also moved the world. Lewis has brought international attention to the Black Lives Matter movement, through his advocacy on social media and at F1 events. Lewis’ mental preparation, his aura, his ability to capitalize on every opportunity to use his platform to drive out racism are more than just a model for race-car drivers and other athletes. He’s an inspiration for everyone.
