This is crazy qualifying- there's no "wet" line, since the track surface is brand new. And even with no puddling, it's so wet that the inters are useless.

Lance proves to be good on the 1st lap, lets see how he's doing by lap 30
What's the weather forecast for the race?
Lewis only has to beat his teammate by a few points to take the championship, I would expect a pretty conservative drive. I think Max is going to be on the top step in this one, but there will likely be a pretty high random factor and we may see someone like Danny take the win. Wouldn't that be cool?
Too bad the time zones make it a difficult one to watch live.
So far having SkySports and ESPN coverage in the USA has been great. I thought of this later this morning when even though there are rain delays ESPN allowed the coverage to continue right up to the driver interviews ended
Lance keeps his pole after review of yellow flag violation in q3.
Lando Norris has 5 grid place penalty for yellow flag violation in q1.
Sainz has 3 grid place penalty for hindering somebody in q1.
So, tracing point kicking butt. McLaren sucking butt. Gah.
I did think it was a bit odd how lance was rubbing his body during the post quali interviews.
Good job stroll!
I wonder if Merc has any suspect engines? This might be a time to add a new one, although the need to have fresh stuff for the rest of the season is not particularly urgent.
Tomorrow will either be fun, or a horrible parade with the track conditions being so slick off line.

It's not any slicker or less slick offline or on the line at this track.
All of the free practice sessions had people spinning and lighting up the tires in straight lines. And that was in the dry!
I hope the race is entertaining. The slower speeds may aid closer following as it seemed to be doable in qualifying.
I have a feeling MB will fall back to 9-10th as they seem to be the worst off with getting the tires to work. Even DAS won't save them. Kimi and Stroll seem to be rather strong. Curious if Max will win or toss the car into the wall.
Racing point has it all to lose. They suck at strategy so I think RB will get them.
I think we are in for an interesting race. It's all so unpredictable, based on what we have seen so far. I doubt Lance will hang onto that position for the first lap.
Keith Tanner said:If it's just as slippery on the racing line, passing just got more interesting.
listening to the drivers, and seeing their lines, the whole track is slippery. Since the surface is so new, there's no wet line- it's all equally bad.
which should make passing really, really interesting.
If it's dry, the racing line will improve a bit. Off line will likely suck all day. Passing will be tough, depending on how big the DRS is.
If it's wet, it is going to be a glorious E36 M3show.
Well I had it right last time, so let's try again...
Giant crash in turn 1, RP screws up the strategy, Max crashes out, and an upset wins, say Danny Ric. Kimi 3rd.
Fascinating race- all about the tires (shocking, I know...).
Stroll went out fast, and built a big lead- and burned off his tires, twice. And then drove the new inters to grain instantly. One wonders if he will learn from this, but hearing his post race interview, I would not be confident that he will look to his driving.
On the flip side, Hamilton went out pretty gently (ignoring the run up to the front on the first lap). And was behind Stroll at one point by an entire pit stop. Waited, waited, and then found the pace. On top of that, he made very worn inters last forever. And won going away.
It was interesting to see Max struggle so much, too, while Vettel had his best race of the season. Lucky to have Charles over cook a pass at the end to get a podium, but like Lewis, Seb just waited until the tires got under his car.
Looking into the distant future- Charles did much like Seb- and while Max may win a WC, seeing LeClerc drive like that makes me thing he can win multiple ones.
Perez should get a ride next year- he made his teammate look bad by finishing the race on those tires.
Nice to see Seb on the podium, he drove well all race. He even overcame the typical E36 M3 Ferrari pit stop.
If Max continues to drive like that he'll never be champion. Watching him try to get by Vettel early on Seb kept it clean and Max was just all over the curbs and track, it was no surprise to see multiple spins by him as the race went on.
Too bad for Stroll, hindsight makes you wonder where he would have finished if they had left him out (maybe 5? if the tires held) but it really looked like they needed to pit him. Definitely easing off on the tires all the way through would've put him on the podium today.
Lewis just shows once again why he's the best.
But who the hell thought that 50 lap inters would be the tire to win?
I thought of predicting Lewis for the win yesterday, but that would have been ridiculous...

IMHO, Stroll didn't manage the race at all. He just went off as fast as he could (much like the formation lap). And then was shocked when his tires went off. And shocked again, when they went off again, and shocked again when they went off again. He was the reason he didn't win.
So many races, Lewis and Valteri just get out in front, and manage the race from there- keeping the tires in great shape, so much so that they can go off, and then back on again. How Stroll does not see that and emulate that is interesting- does he really think that the Mercedes massive pace advantage only result in mid 20 second wins (and that's where the "pace tracker" things fall apart WRT Mercedes).
Perez did a better job, but seeing him try to chase down Stroll a few times kind of messed the tires up, too. Or that was where Stroll would have finished had he just managed the race... Not sure.
