Lots of comments on when Stroll damaged his front wing but here is a direct quote from the team "One of the strakes on the underside of the front wing came loose and lodged itself in such a way that the blockage caused a significant loss of front downforce." Nowhere in this statement does it say that Stroll hit anything or ran over anything, a part of the wing just came loose and got lodged in a bad way. Hope this clears up the discussion. Stroll has done well enough in the junior categories to earn a spot in Formula 1 and for all of Saturday and the first 35 laps of Sunday, he did a pretty damn fine job. I'm not a fan but he's shown some flashes of talent here and there.

I'd like to sit and stare at the dirt tails from all the cars for a glimps at how the air moves.
Oh yeah - just found this that has some good detail shots from after the race highlighting just that.

I know what I'm wasting time on later. I will admit, I found myself pausing the race multiple times to look at the aero flow.
Racing at a decent hour this weekend. I hope Bahrain gives us some good midpack battles and a little rain on Sunday seems a extremely unlikely thing to happen but oddly it might happen. Rain at night? Silly F1!
How does Albon still have that seat?
In reply to Javelin (Forum Supporter) :
Yeah it's only a matter of time before Perez is announced for that seat next year

There is some big deal guy involved with Red Bull who is Thai, is a rumour I heard.
Shocking qualifying- Albon 4th!!! Nice to make up for the accident last night.
Looks to be an entertaining race for the 3rd place in the championship- everything is kind of mixed up.
Albon usually qualifies well. He has a hard time translating that into points on race day.
Also, how does Perez not have a drive still? Stroll cound't get out of Q3 and Perez is 5th in the same car.

You mean Q2?
Stroll was half a second up on Perez in Q1. Q2 got cut down to a single hot lap because of the red flag, and apparently someone screwed up and Stroll had the wrong tires on the car.
Most likely Perez hasn't been confirmed yet because RBR hasn't confirmed that they're cutting Albon.
In reply to Javelin (Forum Supporter) :
Not really, this is only the 4th time he qualified where should. His average start is 7.4 up until today.

He's 6 tenths behind Verstappen. I'd say he's 4th mainly because the midfield teams didn't have a great qualifying, so they dropped further back.

Fourth is fourth.
It's so the worst he should be all season, instead it's a miracle he did it at all. Still won't place higher than 7th tomorrow.
Very thankful Grosjean is out and talking hope he's not too terribly hurt. That looked awful.

Holy crap, the car was sheared in half. I was a bit concerned when it took so long for them to show him on screen.
How did he get out of that? Wedged in the barrier on fire. Holy cow, he's a lucky, lucky guy. And well done to the marshals and medical crew.
A four foot hole in a triple row of steel barrier. Aside from any burns, Romain is going to wake up pretty sore tomorrow. Doctor pulling him from the car and the safety car driver on a fire extinguisher almost instantly. He's a lucky boy right now. That halo probably saved his life.
Edit: Every replay just makes it seem more horrid. If the safety cell had penetrated just a little further into the guard rail he may not have been able to extract himself.
Edit2: I take that last comment back. Did he not climb over the barrier back onto the track side? Did he go right through the Armco?
That was unbelievable.
I was watching with my kids and I gasped because there was no question of how awful that was in real time. Very thankful that he got out of the car.

Just showed a replay of him getting out- he first tried to go out the hole in the barrier, and then with the support of the fire being sprayed, he climbed out the top of the car on the inside of the barrier. He went all the way through. That was terrifying.
edit- and the damage to the halo structure pretty much shows that it saved his life.
Huge crash but after that everything was on his side. Medical car right there, marshals right there. But good lord. That was enormous.
I would not blame Grosjean if he did not show up for the next two races. He's done after this season anyhow and it would take a lot of mental fortitude for a veteran driver to strap in again after that.
Grosjean went right through that Armco ! He dodged a bullet today. Had that cell stopped a little shorter he would have been trapped under the topmost row of ARMCO.
Romain Grosjean almost had the same fate as another French driver, Francoise Cevert.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
I counted 7 seconds from impact until the doctor from the medical car was at the Armco. That is impressive.
Blammo, is all I can say. Thank you, engineers.
