Offered him 1200 (extreme lowball for what he wants), but its a rough looking car. If he overcomes his disbelief to treat it as a negotiating point, may be able to pick it up and fix it up as a daily driver.
you offered too much. that's one skanky miata!
That car was on CL about 6-8 weeks ago. I don't remember what he was asking then, but it was too much.
There was a guy up near me (Tomball area) a few weeks ago who had a '90 with hardtop that was cosmetically rough but worlds better than that for $1800. Mechanically the car was good except for no A/C and something funky in the shift mechanism.
Judging by the pictures, I wouldn't go above $1k on that, and probably more like $800 (assuming it's mechanically sound). There are too many nicer ones floating around for reasonable money.
he already responded with "no thanks", maybe he's trying to protect me from myself.
I think that Tomball miata I went and saw, but thought better of spending upwards of 2 grand on it (I arrived when another miata bidder was there, but didn't want to start a pricing war and overpay)
I'm also keeping my eye on a silver miata in midtown (a '91, though the girl thinks its a '90).
i actually called the guy with the blue one with matching hardtop down in richmond, but he still wants 4300 for it, and its a base model (no lsd) but in really good shape. even still, its pricey
haha, a $1500 '95 shows up now just to emphasize the overestimation of my offer. Too bad I really just want a cheap '90-93.

ooh, I liked that one, but my budget for second miatas is definitely under $2k.
I was tempted to call on that blue one, too, but I figured as long as it's been there must be something was wrong with it. I had assumed, maybe incorrectly, that $4300 was negotiable.
I've been toying with getting another Miata as a dedicated track toy, but I'm not in a big hurry, and certainly not in a big hurry to overpay.
I found a 90 once that had the Junkyard engine, a junkyard rear end, a ratty top, ratty interior, and the radiator fan hooked up to the heater fan control. The exterior was also ratty as hell; twice baked like a potato. The explanation for the heater fan control jimmy rig was, "I didn't want to spend $60 on a temp switch to only find out that it is not the temp switch." So, I guessed the owner didn't like maintenance. It drove OK, nothing crazy. He wanted $2800. She had 218k miles. I offered him $800. He walked. 6 months later it sold for $800 on ebay.
