What four door suv's where around in '78 '79 or '80. Not a jeep.

Every vehicle made around 1980, and certainly anything SUV-like, was square.
John is the winner, I showed him a picture of the eagle wagon and he said that was it. Then we got in an argument over what is or isn't a suv. And how an eagle wagon looks nothing like a pathfinder.
In reply to nicksta43:
Hopefully the answer to the argument was that the Eagle was a wagon because clearly that is what it was.

To fill in the blanks now that I have time. One of my crew guys likes to ramble on about random pointless crap, he usually starts a conversation like we've already been involved in a discussion. On the way back from lunch a pathfinder passes us. He blurts out he remembers when they first came out when he was in high school. Which was like '77-'82. Me, being a know it all says there was no pathfinders back then. He said well it was whatever model preceded it. I say Nissan/Datsun didn't
Have a a suv back then. He goes about trying to describe it and said no to all of my suggestions. I went through almost all of the suggestions that everyone posted and it wasn't until I showed him the picture that he agreed that's what it was. Then he said that was the first suv. I said it was a wagon. And we all lost ten IQ points.
Wasn't first by a long shot, and its based off a unibody car, so that makes it a wagon, not an SUV. In todays marketing, you might call it a crossover, I suppose.
It did have some SUV type stuff, like an inline 6 pointed the right direction, a New Process transfer case, leaf springs and a solid axle out back, but its still a wagon.

Yay, Iron Pig!!!!!! I drove one of these a while back, it was gloriously ugly and (on 37"s) ill handling.
