Like I said above, I need a parts car. The 91 mustang I have has the rear end that will not allow for a bolt in lsd. If I swap in a whole new rear end, I may be able to get one with five lugs or a five lug conversion already done. ( I just missed buying a similar year convertible that already had the five lug conversion done)
Anyway, I don't know what years are the easiest to swap in.
Who has gone before me?
Thanks
You want 94-04 GT Mustang. 3.23 gears, clutch-type LSD, 5-lugs, and disc brakes. Bolts in, but it is a tad wider. The 94-98 are narrower than the 99-04.
Years ago, there was a handy chart on the web that had all of the Mustang rear ends listed but I cannot find it now.
LMR has a decent amount of info on their website:

Swapping in a 94 or newer rear that's wider will effect how wide of a wheel and what offset you can put on the rear of the car. Also you may get the correct wheel for the rear but then it may not fit the front. You would not be able to switch front to rears so be careful of what rear you use and what tire/wheel combo you plan on using.
Also the actually housing is the same width for the 1979-2004 Mustang, only the axle shafts are different lengths.
Thanks guys. I'll check out lmr. I would want to stay w same tires front to back. It's a drag I can't put an lsd into what I have.
I'll keep you posted, but I should start a build thread as well.
What rear do you have now that can’t fit a lsd? I have a 7.5 and 8.8 with lsd, what else is there.
I put 96 axles and a cobra vented brake kit on my 92, it took a 17x8 25mm offset wheel, to fit a 9” wide wheel took a goofy offset like 35 or 40mm. For wheel fitment I would stick with a standard width rear. Normal mustang wheels are easy to find.
I also used 96 front spindles, they are also wider to help with the goofy offset, but had to use a bump steer kit and longer ball joints to get fix the geometry.
A five lug front conversion can be as simple as putting Ford ranger rotors on the stock spindles.
Any 7.5/8.8 can have a limited slip. The only exception is a rare 6 7/8” from 79-81, it looks like a 7.5.
5 lug is as simple as two short ranger axles and ribbed drums for the rear and Lincoln mark7 front rotors.
Yeah, an LSD bolts into the factory 8.8 in a 91 LX just fine. In fact, it should have one there already. Clutch type that's actually pretty decent and super easy to rebuild.

Huh? You either have a 7.5, for which Traction-Loks are available, or an 8.8, for which Traction-Loks are available.
I just did a search a week or two ago and found readily available NEW diffs for the 7.5 for $cheap. And the 8.8 is of course the 8.8, anything is available for that.
