I don't know about their efficiency numbers, but it's a perfectly logical place for a hub style motor. Regen is going to be nearly impossible when on the rear wheels of a vehicle. It sounds like they are trying to target the FWD econo boxes though.
I saw that on the news last night, it looked really interesting. I'd be very excited to try it on either (or both) of our FWD cars.
