They've been running a TV ad recently where Papa John delivers a pizza himself to someone's house, and he's driving an old Camaro. I wonder if it's this car...I noticed that it has ancient tires on it, they're B.F. Goodrich Radial T/As spelled out in all capital letters which probably dates them to the early 1970s.

wow, I should start up my own pizza chain. $250,000 for an old Camaro??

Tom Monaghan (Domino's Pizza) has a lot of cash laying around too....This states he once bought 200 collector cars.

"Papa" john had that car rebuilt to replicate the same car he sold to start the business. That's why it's so prominent in the commercials. He's a gearhead with a soft heart for the "one that got away". We've all made those kinds of sacrifices.

Dude, I'm gonna get the LS1 donor up and running tomorrow and fill it with pizza :)

Here are the details from the papasroadtrip.com website:

In celebration of Schnatter finding his Camaro, Papa John’s will offer a free large, one-topping pizza on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, to Camaro owners. To redeem, Camaro owners must arrive at their nearby Papa John’s restaurant in their Camaro to order and pick up their free pizza. Limit one pizza per Camaro, and one visit per Camaro.

The site also has the timeline for the car's ownership. Guy sold it to start the pizza chain. That owner kept it for 17 years, then sold it for $1000. Four years later, it changes hands twice in a month and the current owner bought it for $4500. By the looks of the car, he put some money into it - but it's fair to say his investment was repaid

I'm going to get a free pizza. I knew owning a Camaro would pay off.

That's a lot for an old pony car, for certain, but I saw one that was "worth" even more.

Back in 68, when Chevy was building the original 302 Z28, they never produced them as a convertible, (possibly for liability reasons). Bob Estes, head cheese in the corporate office , decided he wanted a ragtop Z28, and had the line build one, just for him. A true 1 of 1. He drove around in it for years, didn't really pamper it, and eventually sold it.

A few years ago, I was at the Kruse auction in Auburn, Indiana, and the car showed up for sale. It was on display, but roped off. You couldn't get closer that 6 feet from it. It didn't really look that clean, but there it was.. the world's only drop-top Z28.

Anyway, when they drove it onto the auction turntable, the furvor was intense. Bidding kept on for a long time, and when all was said and done, the final bid was $1,150,000.00.

The seller turned it down. Turns out his reserve was $1.5 mil......

Nope. Says "Firebird" right on the back. No one but hopeless car geeks who never get laid would know they're the same under the metal.
