He says he can't spend more than $8k. I don't know much about the classic Mustang market but that seems ambitious to me. I don't think he is a "get your hands dirty" kind of car guy so I can't imagine he is looking for a project car. Is there any way this is a realistic prospect? I'd like to help him in his search if I can.

That is very ambitious. Most of the 351 drivers I see are in the 14-18K range. the 8-12 K range puts you more in the notchback 302 range.

Which Mach 1, early 69/70 will bring $25K these days, however an SN95 Mach 1 can be close to $8K.

You might be able to find a driver 71-73 Mach1 for 8k, but even thats a stretch.
