A friend from work who likes to rock his '78 Camaro and who is currently drunkenly jamming to Kiss in Dubai mentioned off- hand the other day that he's thinking about having his barn-stored '63 Impala restored. It was his wife's grandfather's car he bought new. It's an Oklahoma car up here in Michigan now after her grandfather passed away. I guess someone had the interior redone like 15 or 20 years ago and it's been sitting since then.

A couple years ago he had someone quote him $10k in order to get it on the road with disc brakes and looking decent, but not a trailer queen.
He took the wheels off the other day and aired up the tires and they held air, just apparently won't do it for 20 years.

Anyway, that's the story and I thought it was cool so I'm sharing it.
327, or thereabouts, he said.

And yes I've totally been encouraging him to go for it.

Imapala, Imapala, Imapala.

That's a pretty solid platform to start with, I hope he goes through with it.

Imapala... You're a what?

Oh, and nice car! I like a good restomod, but I'd be tempted to keep it original, drum brakes and all.

That's at the short end of a long list of cars I'd like to own ;)

I had a 4 door '63 Biscayne 15 years ago.  A 2 door or wagon would be awesome.

Our 2007 challenge RX7’s small block Chevy was from a similar vintage Biscayne, I think a 64, so I told the guy I have a couple of the old style oil filter attachments  that the spin on adapters require. He said thanks, but I’m not touching a wrench on this one. Lucky!

I think other than the whole thing being gone through and the brakes, the only upgrade he’s looking at is a hidden stereo in it since it still has the original AM.
