E36 M3, I've got a front end clunk in my E36 M3. Straight line only, over any size bump, including pavement seams, cracks, etc. doesn't seem to be only LF or only RF. Goes away when there's any lateral force at the front end. Hear it out front, also feel it through the steering wheel.

'95 M3, 200k miles New front LCA's on both sides Did not replace lollipops with LCA's No service records for any other front end work.

Does this sound like a tie rod, rack, rack bushing, sway bar bushing, sway bar end link, strut, strut hat, LCA lollipop bushing? What's the most likely suspect on an E36 M3?

I'd WAG the sway bar end links. Plus, they are about the easiest thing there to change, so it might be a good start.

Visual inspection will probably identify the cause though (old bushings or torn boots). Bring a prybar to verify your suspicion.

lollypops are easy.. why didn't you do them?

I also second swaybar.. the 95s have a unique setup too

Swaybar something. My Z did the same thing. Turns out one of the bushing mounts had pulled it self partially out.

Agreed on the swaybar endlinks, sounds exactly like what my M3 did and I had the Mason Engineering links that were adjustable, but noisy as hell. What endlinks do you have on the car?

In reply to CyberEric:

They are the OE end links AFAIK. RockAuto says my replacements will be here tomorrow.
