So, the shift action on my frs wasn’t quite as smooth as I’d like, so I changed the fluid to BG syncro shift. Made everything much nicer, smoother, easier in and out of gears except now I get a bit of a grind going into 6th, unless I slowly and deliberately move the shifter. It didn’t do this with the old fluid. Any recommendations on what to try? A lot of people like motul or redline.
Thanks!

Subbed. I'm looking at getting one and this is the first thing I noticed that needed fixing

No direct experience with that trans, but after many years of Redline MTL, I tried Honda MTF in my C900 based on numerous recommendations. The Saab's transmission is notoriously not great, but the Honda juice really improved it a lot over whatever was in there before. I'm probably going to try it in my 2002, as that 4spd in there is pretty notchy after all these years.
Motul 300. Makes shifting 800x better.
Also remember the BRZ has an odd interval of 22.5k miles vs the typical 30k miles. Probably due to the small amount of fluid.
My advice is to change when it starts shifting crummy again, for me that was about 15k mile intervals.

Whatever was in it before wasn’t grinding gears, though it was shifting stiffly. It shift much better now, except that 6th gear issue. Maybe it was the original fluid in it before. Car has 50,000 miles.
If you suspect that hasn't been changed before I'd also go ahead and change the diff fluid. These transmissions are notchy, esp when cold, but I've been changing mine once a year since I track the car and it's fine once warmed up. For track cars Motul 300 75/90 seems to be the fluid of choice.
I don't know about the twins, but OEM fluid made the trans in the G35 shift like butter. It took care of all the crunch going into 3rd and 5th.
I'd go for the manufacturers oil.
Is it an Aisin transmission? They seem to like the Ford transmission oil with that transmission in a Miata.
I'm running Motul as well. No grinds, no complaints, car shifts fine. Keeping it fresh does seem to be key, I definitely noticed a degredation in shift quality between the time I bought the car (46k mi) and the first transmission oil change I did (~61k IIRC.) Lately I've noticed it getting notchier again, so next oil change I'll do it again (due at 76k.) Z31's 15k interval seems to be spot on for me.
Some very good info here, though TRE specializes in Mitsubishi transmissions:

Synchromesh works great right away, but is generally not good for synchros and gear wear.
So, which redline product do we like? Mt-90 or the 75-90?

Oh just noticed the 75-90 is gl5, the mt90 is gl4. I think I’ll go for the mt90
Why? Does the transmission have brass syncros?
In reply to Appleseed :
Haven’t the foggiest idea but the manual calls for gl4 trans and gl5 diff.
