Nothing wrong with that either. Thanks to the Cayenne, we get the 911 GT3 RS
It'll be a competitor to the Miata. Maybe not at the SCCA Nationals level, but where it counts: in the marketplace.

Is that a roll hoop behind the seat? Isn't there supposed to be a place to put your 6 year old back there?

Or if you were a fan of Toyotas? Remember the days of the British roadster explosion, when you coudl buy MGBs, Midgets, Austin Healeys, Fiat 124s, Tirumphs, Alfa Spiders, Honda S800s, Datsun roadsters, etc? Why would anyone buy one over the other? CHoice, my friend, choice. Competition is GOOD. Why let only one company build any given type of vehicle?
QFT!
Hopefully this hits close enough to home that MAZDA FINALLY BUILDs A FIXED-ROOF MIATA!!!!!@~@~!1!ONE! (preferably a hatch, I have bicycles.)

This just seems like the bean-counters finally getting their mitts on the Frisbee and trying to make it into their idea of "what sells".
Personally I don't like convertibles, but women love them apparently... Had a woman come over in a parking lot and enthusiastically ask what my car was (I confuse people with a debadged FR-S and the 86 piston badge on the rear trunk valence ). I told her and she said .."It's beautiful! Is there a convertible version available?!!" I said the convertible is in the works and would be a few years down the road. If I remember right she had a new Focus ST. I have heard many women commenting on how the FR-S/BRZ is beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, etc - you don't hear that said about miatas; you hear nice, cute, adorable, etc. instead.
I don't mind a convertible version being made one bit ...it's really styled well and there's nothing wrong with having a great handling convertible made. The coupe is more precise, focused/immediate in responsiveness and handling than a miata...so I'd image the ragtop would feel about like a miata hopefully. Women will practically faint over it's beauty compared to a miata though...
