I'm shopping for a fuel cell and know nothing about them. What do y'all (trying my AL speak ) like and use? There are huge differences in prices and specs. What does it all mean? Can you find used cells and would you use them?
This is for the RX-7, built to SCCA production specs. With the thirst of a rotory, I think 15 gallon is a minimum.
Thanks,

Read the rule book and make sure the cell you get has the proper ratings. For a SCCA legal cell, your best price will be on an ATL. Expect to pay at least $700 just for the cell. I just bought a 12 gallon one discounted to $550. They pop up used and sometimes new never installed on Craigslist quite often. You just need a good search engine to find them. If you only want an Improved Touring cell, you can go with the cheap ones.
I believe that there is a lifespan on the bladders. Take that into account if buying used. Check the GCR, as it has been a number of years since I sold those.

So after reading more about the rules and such for fuel cells (cost of replacement, 5 year life span, etc) I've decided that if the series doesn't require it, it's not worth it. Yes, you do run an increased fire risk, but I'd rather put the money into suppression and a better suit.

New rules for this year require larger fire systems, different chemicals, and recertification by manufacturer every two years.
