Just replaced the in tank pump on the E21. The PO appears to have mangled the flange where the pump mounts up. I was hoping the new o-ring that came with the pump would fix the leak. Didn't happen.

I've tried to straighten it out with pliers but not enough access without dropping the tank and that and that ain't happening today. What I need is something to spread on the top of the tank to flatten it out so the o-ring can seal.

Anyone know of something that I can get locally, today and fairly cheap that will stand up to gas?

Parts stores sell a two part hot dog type sealer but its meant to be permanent fix. Slice off a chunk knead to uniform color and apply.

Man, I was wondering the same thing this weekend myself. The fuel outlet disconnect at the in-tank fuel pump on my RX8 started leaking this past week. Spent all weekend working on it. Can't find any reason for it to leak and nothing I tried seemed to fix it. Line and fitting doesn't appear to have a crack. Don't know why it would crack or start to leak anyway. On top of the fuel tank, under a panel under the right rear seat that doesn't get used. Tried new fuel compatible o-rings and fuel sealant. nothing seemed to work. Even put a gob of sealant with the new o-rings and let it set overnight. Still leaked. Tried a different fuel sealant with different viton fuel compatible o-rings. That seemed to slow it down to a small drip. Going out of town for the week tomorrow. I'll check it when I get back. Hopefully the sealant cured enough to stop the leak. Drove my crazy, no apparant reason for it to leak and nothing I tried seemed to work. What seemed to work, will find out later is VersaTech Gasket Sealant Type 2. Fuel compatible and remains pliable.

On a side note. When I was at the parts store getting sealant and o-rings, the girl helping me told me she had an 04 RX8 she wanted to sell. Only wants $2000 for it and it is fully loaded with leather interior and factory nav system. Down side is it is automatic trans and hasn't run in a couple years. She said it does have the paddle shifters though. She tried to get it to run but couldn't. I'm thinking apex seals are bad. The wheels in my head did turn a bit but don't have the room and the $$ needs to go for other things. Like new autocross tires, a set of better (than stock) springs and some new shocks (preferably Koni adjustables to replace the Bilstien Sports)for the Miata. Trying to get it on the track this year.

Goop has a gasoline proof type that does indeed work. Available at Walmarts and Home Depots.

Permatex® PermaShield™ Fuel Resistant Gasket Dressing & Flange Sealant? Seal all would probably work too.
