Hey

I am reassembling an s5 tii motor, and I want to replace two short pieces of hose that go between hard lines and the fuel rail.

Can I just use fuel inj hose from a parts store?

Are these hoses special? They don't look special. I think the system runs at 40 psi.

Didnt see any replacements listed at Mazdatrix.

Thanks Neil

I used regular high pressure fuel hose when I rebuilt my engine.

Just make sure you don't kink it.

Fuel injection hose will handle 40 psi easy and it is intended to be used with gasoline. Just try to use something other then standard hose clamps to secure it. See link. http://www.mcmaster.com/#hose-and-tube-clamps/=az4du8

Use fuel injection hose clamps. They sell them at any parts store. They are almost the same price as regular hose clamps.

Can you use normal fuel hose for injection setups? Why wouldn't you? I've been using it for mine, but always wonder why the hose says "not for fuel injection systems".

Using normal fuel hose for fuel injection is asking for a car fire. You are using it at or over the maximum pressure pressure it is designed to take. Change it before you lose your car and possibly seriously injured. Autoparts stores mostly have stopped carrying fuel injection clamps, search for ABA hose clamps if you want the best you can get

Because it is not rated for the pressure. It will probably burst with age and throw fuel all over the place. This is not a good situation.

The "not for fuel injection system" hose is rated for about 12 psi MAX. As the hose ages and gets weaker due to degradation and heat, it WILL BURST.

Pony up the money for the good stuff. It's cheaper than a fire extinguisher.

P.S. Advance auto parts still carries the fuel injection clamps in the Pittsburgh, PA area.

He specifically said "fuel inj hose," there is plenty of hose out there rated for the pressures used in fuel injection. There's no problem using it in fuel injection since it's made for it!

But yeah, use good clamps.

I know the OP was asking about the right thing, I was referring to the other person that said they were using hose marked not for fuel injection, which is a very very stupid and unsafe thing to do.

I'm the @$$hole using the normal hose in a fuel injection situation. Mainly because I can't find the FI hose- do they keep it behind the counter?

Regardless, it's been in use for several years without problems, but I'll swap it out.

Napa autoparts, autozone, etc have it. You do have to ask them to cut it for you.

Oh sh--, sorry guys. The "view new posts" thing failed me, started only with the "don't use it!" post. Sorry!

Definitely don't use the "not for fuel injection" hose, just because it's so cheap to use the right stuff.

Thanks for the info on the clamps 'cause I've got those all over my first gen. Never gave any trouble at the 2.5psi the carb needs!

Never really messed with fuel injection, and I am pretty much anti-car fire. So, glad I asked.

I used the Goodyear FI hose with the blue liner on all that stuff on my car. Being a pack rat, I save all kinds of stuff and I use those spring type clamps on mine, makes for quick assembly/disassembly. But- I use the ones that are 'doubled'.

These are the clamps you should get: http://www.ultimategarage.com/abaprice.html

I have bought some and they are obviously better quality than anything that you will find at the auto parts store.

You'll need to log in to post.
