My friend has a 1987 Monte Carlo SS. Been running a carb'd stroked SBC forever with loads of nitrous. We swapped it to a T56 manual transmission a while back and realized the driveshaft doesn't have to be changed between that and the 700R4, so he swaps the transmissions out regularly for drag racing or what have you. Pretty modular setup.

Anyway, after YEARS of thinking, he's finally going to put a pair of hairdryers on the car and make some real power. He's got a really decent intake manifold and is going to have fuel injector bungs welded in and fuel rails made. He's fabricating his own headers/exhaust and all that good stuff too. He's really talented at all that stuff.

So now we were discussing fuel injection control and engine control. SpeedPro/FAST, MegaSquirt, what is a good option? He's not really wanting to spend $5k on a system, but not scared do spend a little cash on a decent system. I don't know much about MegaSquirt...

Anyone care to help a brotha out?

You can probably find a used Big Stuff 3 loaded with a tune exactly for what he is running for under 3k.

Why not a BT carb?

MS, $500-600 should get you there with a stim board and all...

We still haven't gotten around to the hair drier side of things, but if you're thinking about MegaSquirt, the article on Jerry's Nova covers a typical small block Chevy carb to EFI conversion:

im doing a similar swap on my carbd duster. im staying with a GM TPI ecm though, for ease of everything. i can tune them by myself, and im pretty sure a 12 year old could get even the gnarliest combo running long enough to get it to a tuner.

also, should be able to get mail order tunes from motorvation for one set price.
