So, my eldest son and I are going to Carlisle,Pa. for the Import Tuner show. Not really my cup of tea, but he's into that type of car, so we'll go spend the weekend doing something together, and maybe there'll be some vendors that I can browse. And THEN, he sees that there's 410 and 358 sprint cars at Williams Grove tomorrow night, and only 8 miles from our hotel !! Now, THAT ought to be a show!!

I drank a can of Pepsi the other day with the full list of shows at Carlisle this year - that's pretty localised advertising for such a global product. Enjoy the trip.

Which is why soda is cheaper than beer.

I just got back from the Carlisle area. The "Performance ands Style" show wasn't bad, my son enjoyed it, but not as good as the "Import and Kit Show". Lot's of 4" exhaust pipes and 18" wheels. I did see a turboed Festiva with a 1600 Mazda that I thought would be very at home on this forum. Lot's of neat ideas, but what really got me smiling was all the low-buck stuff some of the kids are doing. Reminded me of my own youth ,when I didn't have any money but wanted my car to look and perform better. There was more than enough cars that were put together with the primary tool being a cheque book, but lots of other driveway modifications, too. The "real" entertainment of the weekend for me ,was Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway watching the sprint cars. 17 second laps on a half mile ,clay track is really, really impressive. I watched some locals come in with chemistry class, style goggles and thought they looked a little "dorky" until the dirt started flying !! The wind would pick up 15 mph every time the pack came by and you would have to close your eyes for all the dust and clods of clay. By the time we could open them the leaders were coming back down the straight again !! I'm going to get some goggles tomorrow for the World of Outlaws visit to I-96 Speedway in a couple of weeks. If you've never been to a winged sprint car race you don't know what you're missing ! You gotta do this once. Several 16 year old drivers were there, and one 358 heat race featured 3 girls in the top 4 qualifiers. The best 16 bucks I've spent in quite a while !
