ANother vote for Saturn, however, I vote for the SL2.
Twin cam engine makes it entertaining enough but the car just makes you work to maintain momentum and make good lines. Its cheap enough to fix and pot holes dont faze it.
Spent many many many miles behind the wheel of one and truthfull had a blast the whole time!
I vote fiat X1/9. I have had a lot of cars and currently have a 911, but it's the X1/9 I had the most fun in. Slower than molasses, but a ton of fun

Not compared to what I'm driving now.
Not compared to my 'vintage' Turbo Dodge Caravans either, or my 911, or my old Lexus Hybrid sedan even, but this is a slow car thread so none of that is particularly relevant...right?
I can't believe how scarce Datsun 1200 have become. I hate think about the fact that most must have been crushed. It seems I won't ever get to own one. I watched a couple have a lot of fun autocrossing their their orange 1200 in the Portland Oregon area in the early 80's, and also Dan Hall's Datsun 1200 screaming around PIR around the same time. If I look for 1200's for sale now there are times that zero will be found on adhuntr and ebay. So, if not for their scarceness, how about a Datsun 1200?

You must not have found the volume knob. My old '74 remains one of my favorites. 1500 swapped in with twin 40DCNF Webers, a nice cam, ported and flowed head, and close ratio gear box. By today's standards it probably wasn't very fast, but in the '90's it's 8 seconds to 60 wasn't too bad.
Not sure who the owner is now, but this is it.
I spent a lot of my young adult years driving the "slow cars" I thought that 85 mph was pretty fast.
The most fun cars I had were a Saab 96 Special, It would hit 90 if there was enough space. My Goliath/Borgward Hansa 1100 could be urged to 80. Both were driven in auto and rally cross, hill climbs and track days.
I used to say, my dream car would do 0-60 in 10 secs. and reach 100 mph. Now I have one and it is classed as slow by todays standard but like the old days it is a lot of fun to drive.
2013 Fiesta 1.6 powershift.
I have a Nov. 1958 copy of Road and Track with several road tests.
Fiat-Abarth-Zagato 87mph/ 0-60 17.3
MG-A Twin Cam 113 mph. 0-60 9.9
Ford Taunus 17-m 79 mph 0-60 18.5
There were some "fast" cars. Ferrari 212 Coupe. 128 mph and 0-60 8.2
@deanwerks as someone who's owned and raced a 1200 for last 30 years, 1200s may not fit the bill regardless of availability; if you left one stock including the 12" wheels maybe. The problem is that first thing that happens is you fit some 185/60-13s, then ya bolt on 310/Sentra brakes, then some Koni shocks & addco anti-sway bars. 210s show up on Craigslist cheap and so you slap in the 1500cc motor / 5 speed. Hey Weber DGEV carbs Can be found for $50-100 and before you know it's a 1600lb can with a 100hp that will pull 1G in street trim that begs to be joined.
Now on the X1/9; I once had a student at a track day bring one and without a doubt they are fun. Revvy motor with snappy turn in, the narrow tires give it a lower threshold than moderns which made it fun.
I enjoyed hooning the crap out of a Tercel in my younger and more irresponsible years. I was always amazed at how roomy it was inside for such a tiny car.
In reply to ebonyandivory:
Lucky that you didn't spin out.
I had one that would get loose doing a long uphill bend a full throttle. No wait, that was with two different cars.
A car that WASN'T fun to drive. Talk about rear end happy.
That thing would get loose at 30mph on a wet road.
Renault Dauphine
Oh yeah, My high school days car. '41 Willys Americar. All of 63 hp. Engine later became famous in the JEEP.
No one mentioned a Corvair, today my pick would be a Morgan.

One that I used to own.
1968 Toyota Corolla. 1100 roaring ccs putting out 73 bhp. Only car I ever owned that I floated the valves in every gear (had to resort to a long downhill run to do that in 4th.) Ah - youth!
