I don't see how anyone that considers themselves an enthusiast could possibly endorse such a plan. Most dipshniits on the road today wouldn't know proper driving to save their lives-these are the clowns I want rating driving habits? No thanks. When did we turn into a nation of snitches and pusscakes?

meh. it works both ways.
Drive along with your app equipped phone active and you report every fourth car that you pass. "cream Malibu, the driver is engaging in oral sex with a minature poodle" "Blue minivan, The driver just left her seat and is assaulting the oldest child occupying the rear most seat," ad nauseum.

Rule of the road #1: driving 1mhp faster than me = reckless, driving 1mph slower than me = learn how to drive jerk off!!!
For 90% of the population, that rule applies....
I think ANYTHING resulting from this besides some laughs, will be impossible to justify/enforce... if i found out my insurance company changed my rates due to data from this service I would leave pronto OR sue the E36 M3 outta them... but I do not see it happening...
Kind sad though, and unsafe, even with voice commands, and who really pulls over to post it, HEY thats a good option, make the app GPS dependant so that you CANNOT report someone if it detects you traveling at more then walking speeds!!!

Anyone who wants Ansons license plate info get at me so we can all report him for epic hoonage.
what we need is to find out what Philip Inghelbrecht tag # is and start reporting him a dozen times a day ... all of us ... no matter where we are .... no matter the time of day/night...
The key phrase in the article was 'monetization', ie how can we expoit driver frustration (whether real or imagined) to make a buck. Problem is, without real objective evidence, all of this falls under the heading of 'hearsay'. Each and every person that 'reports' is subject to a defamation lawsuit. I'd suggest it be set up like this: Each time you 'report' someone, it costs you $1, and you must first be shown a screen of boilerplate legalese, and click acceptance that you understand that your identity and actions are also being recorded, and are subject to use in a lawsuit by the person being identified. In other words, you (the person reporting) are no more anonymous that the person you report.
Any takers now?

I get to a side street and she really is dangerously close to me on a residential street. So I pull over to let her pass. She does not pass. She rolls down her window and yells at me. She was angry because I passed her in the turn lane. Um. Sorry lady. If you were turning, I dunno, maybe you should have gotten into the turn lane. She tells me that I not only passed her, but I "revved my engine at her". I explained to her that I didn't intentionally do anything wrong and asked if she was calm enough to drive in a safe manner. That made her even more angry. I told her I was sorry if I did anything wrong and asked if she could please go on her way now and let me get home. Now, she would have been on that phone thing like a fly on E36 M3. But I wasn't wrong. I'm 43 years old and have NEVER been sited for an accident. Only had one accident in my life, when I was 16, and that wasn't my fault. Though today I would be able to avoid it.
I get this kind of thing, you pass someone and they get mad you passed them so they retaliate, or you go around them and they act "offended" and come after you in some way. I'm an agressive driver, in spite of the informal media campaign against it, there is nothing wrong with that as long as you're polite and safe... I always let people merge for example, I let folks go ahead of me, etc. Its usually the people I let go ahead of me that end up being asleep at the wheel and I end up kicking myself. Yesterday I was at a redlight, the second car in a line of cars to turn right. The minivan in front of me could not even imagine turning right on red, it was just too much for them, so rather than wait, I just got in the next lane to the left (which is for going straight only), saw no cars of course and just turned right, right in front of them and went on my way. I no longer try to turn these things into teachable moments and I'm too old to argue when people see me at the next light and cuss me out, I just don't care.
Isn't there a push on to actually reduce cell phone use while driving?
I can see some one causing an accident while trying to call in some one else.
I can see it now.
But officer it is not my fault I killed the baby in the carriage I was reporting some one that had a brake light out.
Ya this idea is going places. I am surprised the legislators are in MA have not already adopted it.
I can just imagine the abuse.
Last year I was up in PA. On 422 heading out of Reading. Road construction on the right has closed that lane and a semi is stuck there and NOBODY is letting him merge. It took me 15 minutes to get up to him.. and he was still sitting there.. so I stopped and let him merge. Hey, I hold a CDL.. been there, done that and all
The guy behind me goes fricken bezerk on the horn and giving me the finger because I am now holding him up an extra 30 seconds.. 2 minutes later, we clear the road construction and both lanes open up. The truck pulls right and I follow to let the idiot behind me pass.
He doesn't.. he pulls up right next to me.. mirrors almost touching and proceeds to yell every curseword he can think of at me. I am driving my BMW.. he is in some crapbox.. I smiled, waved, and after checking the mirror.. tested the ABS on my car with a full on panic stop. I was not going to listen to him and I was not going to let him get behind me again. He tried.. but it was turning into one of those slow speed OJ chases when he finally gave up.
And to think.. if had just kept his cool.. he would have only been 30 seconds slower instead of several minutes because he had to "play"
I imagine my license plate would have been turned in that day if the app had been availible
I have an eaiser solution to lower the amount of traffic crashes. Simply come up with a device that works in conjunction with fancy smart phones. Have it blue tooth in or whatever and disable the phones texting feature unless the car is in park / parking brake up. Get the insurance companies to require it for all drivers under 18.
That would cut back on way more crashes then reporting aggressive drivers through a silly app, and you would eliminate the accuracy issues.
pimpm3 wrote: ...device ... disable the phones texting feature unless the car is in park / parking brake up.
Much of my winter driving involves leaving the parking brake up
I think it's a great thing as well. It will eventually lower my rates, as insurance companies will realize that women above the age of 25 should pay more, not men.
Deleted my post.
I posted up the same idea as TypeQ did on page 2, I just didn't read the thread fully before posting.

If enough people people did this then the noise in the data goes way up. A license plate being "reported" in San Diego when the car is in San Jose at the time make the data point worthless.
Actually that does bring another problem. How do you filter out data when someone gets a digit or two wrong in their "report"?
Anyone think the person seting up this app is possibly one of the worst drivers on the road. He is so upset over people being upset with him over his driving its his plan to get back. It could backfire on him. Anyone got his plate number?
Want it to go away? Just start reporting the tags of the traffic court judges, chief of police, insurance company presidents, police officers, elected officials, etc...
irish44j wrote: more importantly, they should take all the people who SUBMIT reports, and send their information to the state police, since that is evidence that they were TEXTING while driving (or something similar), which is....illegal in most states now.
I like this idea, but the article says it is voice activated, not text based.
