I'm curious how similar how hard it would be to mount a Ford 1.6L Ecoboost engine/trans into a EG Civic hatch. Or even a Ecotec 1.4L/6-speed manual into a FWD EG Civic or Tercel/Paseo. Anyone ever try this? I'm sure it's possible with enough money and time but wondering if I would need an engineering degree.
An engineering degree won't help you regardless of the complexity. I have one and it's worthless for this stuff. Access to a welder, water jet, and other fab tools is what you need
Yeah an engineering degree won't help you, and you can even get away without all of those fab tools (you'll probably need a variety of basic stuff and a welder).
Generally there's one mount on each of the 4 sides of the engine bay, and sometimes one that connects the bellhousing to the crossmember...apart from that, anything's possible.
Keep in mind that frankenstein swaps in FWD cars means custom axles.
Honda Transmissions are on opposite sides of majority of other FWD manufactures. Also believe someone mentioned that they turn in opposite directions also. Someone else will have to verify that though. Admittedly not very FWD smart.
hmmm...ok what about a 2000 Focus with an ecoboost swap? I'm assuming a driveshaft shop could make me custom axles, right?
If they do FWD/CV axles, then yes they'll be able to make custom ones for you. Sometimes you can use axles from a different car or a "hybrid" axle of junkyard parts instead of a custom-made one.
I'd really look into the computer situation. I had a friend wanting to do an economist swap that did a ton of research and called it off because of how hard it would be to get the computer to work correctly. This guy has done dozens of megasquirt builds and is good
^Good point for a modern DI engine. Aftermarket ECUs that can do DI are currently priced in the "If you have to ask..." range. And even with a more mundane engine that you could run on a MS or something, sometimes the car's chassis/cabin systems throw a fit if they can't communicate with the ECU, and that's a whole different can of worms...

I was going to say that, too.
Instead of an Ecoboost swap- turbo a Duratec. And instead of starting with a 2000 ZTEC, start with a 2004 2.3l Duratec, add turbo.
I'm 90% sure that the Duratec is perfect for MS- since it's not VCT nor ETC- just a basic layout. And a very good one at that.
And if it helps, I have had a few Duratec turbo cars- one Mondeo, one Escape, and when the Panama Focus was alive- a few of those.
Lets put it this way- a turbo 2.3 Duratec in a Focus is a really fun car.
(and if you don't like the Focus, you can do the same in a 3)
