I hung the tv from my living room in the garage when i got a new one and stream music on a fire stick. Output is to a small amp and thrift store speakers. It gets decently loud but the bass is limited by the relatively small speakers.

Back in the 90's, these flashy mini systems were the new hotness. Now, people leave them on the curb or give them away. I had an old Sony mini system for a while, but the tape deck and CD players died, and then it wouldn't turn on anymore. My dad found this one for free from his town transfer station's "swap shop" area, where people leave stuff that you can take for free. The tape deck needs new belts, but the CD player, tuner, and AUX-in work fine. And it's got SUPER WOOFERS! It still sounds really great. My old iPod Classic lives out there now as well.
Back before everything was "vintage" I bought a 70's Marantz reciever with the cool blue light and a pair of original Advent speakers at Goodwill for like $30. My wife thought it was ugly and made me put it in the garage. That setup berkeleying rocked, I would sit out in the garage just to listen to music.
sanyo 2050 receiver I got a while ago using some radio shack speakers I had when I was in high school. Stream music with the laptop most of the time.

I have a similar system I got from a coworker. Loud enough to be obnoxious, doesnt take up much space. I feed it from an old PC running Amazon music. Works great.
The coolest garage audio I ever saw was a laptop bolted flat to the wall on a little fabricated cage bracket, that could connect to Internet radio (back when that was a thing) or just play MP3s.
Apple HiFi speaker connected to an Echo Dot. Music, weather, communications to the family, etc. The sound out of that Apple speaker system is pretty impressive to me.
Jamo speakers are budget setups with supposedly great value.
Watch slickdeals for 100 dollar towers and pair with a 80 dollar sub. Surely you have an amp from college or else get one on craigslist for 25 bucks.
I bought this bluetooth receiver/amp:
And mounted these speakers in the ceiling. The back of the receiver/amp has connections for two speakers that are wired. The first time I installed this I had the amp/receiver in the attic (Atlanta) and it lasted a bit more than a year. I moved it to the wall but on the garage side. I liked it because it turns itself on/off when you connect to it, it's up and out of the way, the sound going down did not seem to carry as far outside to the neighbors.
