So I was installing new gas lift supports (gas springs) in the Matrix to keep the hatch up. Now the hatch won't stay up at all. Is there a particular way to break them in, or anything else that I'm missing?

It appears that I ordered the parts for an Echo Hatchback instead of for a Matrix. Whoops. Oh well, live and learn.
Blah da da! The more you know. Imagine a picture of "the more you know" script and a shooting star going though.

I once replaced the expensive struts on my 318ti with much cheaper struts for a chevy blazer... they worked great, if you had the arm strength to close it.. but for half the price, I was willing to put up with it

Reminds me of my friend's EK-chassis Civic hatchback. He had a carbon fiber hatch on it with stock struts. Had to be careful when you opened it, because it would break your nose.
