Which reminds me - I used it as the solvent to clean carbon out of the intake on my GS430 and PCV passages on my Volvo 850, meaning with a toothbrush like you. Both times the Seafoam did a good job of dissolving the junk quickly and leaving little residue. So I could see that if there's a deposit or carbon on something the seafoam can get to (that's key) then it could make a difference.

I use it all the time, I get civics with 140K-200+K miles to sell from friends or on Craigslist cheap and they will not pass smog. Seafoam through the intake, in the oil and tank, new plugs after 100 miles of hard driving with the seafoam in the system. Check the timing, drain all the fluids and they will go from gross polluter to barely detectable in a afternoon.

ive seen it bring a lifter back to life, help clear out an TBI injector that was having a crappy spray pattern. Also when i got my 3 wheeler it liked to try to slowly idle up while in neutral after sitting at idle for ~45 seconds, probably something that was gummed up in the idle circuit, if you blipped the throttle it would idle back down for another ~45 seconds then start idling up again. Put some seafoam in the tank and ran it for a day at the offroad park and could basically watch it work everytime we would stop for a bit as it got better though out the day, hasnt idled up since.
I use Techron for cleaning and Marvel mystery for lube.
Before I converted my Chevy Vortec to MPFI the Marvel would allow the poppet valves to pop much more reliably. It runs even better with out them.
I know the popular thought is octane booster is crap. I disagree. It is probably because I only have access to 91 here in CA, but even the cheap ass O'Reilly octane booster stops the pinging in my car. I do have a tune so every tiny bit is actually noticeable. I was doubtful, it works for me.
I have used top tier gasoline for many years and have never had a fuel system problem (knocking on wood). When I purchase a used car, I use a dose of Marvel Mystery Oil in the engine for 100 miles and change oil and filter. Also a dose in the fuel tank. I have used it to clean and lubricate my air tools for 50+ years. I use non oxygenated gas in my boat engine, mowers, snow throwers and other small engines. Stabil is used in boat engine and NB for winter storage. Everything else is drained and run dry. Amazing to see people still adding alcohol additives to gas in the winter even though we have 10% ethanol already. We use to add real sperm oil to the friction plate type positraction differentials when I worked in a Mopar shop. I also used it in my 75 Trans Am differential to stop the binding and locking of the plates.
The Lucas upper cylinder lubricant makes my car run smoother and nets about 2 mpg more
Looks like Subarust is getting a bottle of Techron or Seafoam this weekend.
I like seafoam, it worked really well for de sludging a 2.3t for me. Fuel system didnt have any issues but i ran half a bottle through it at the same time.

Lol I've actually tested the mpg in 4 cars. Its around 2mpg average.
A little Dawn soap in your tank will clean off even the most stubborn baked on carbon deposits. 
The only additive I used somewhat regularly was when I had C5 'vettes. The fuel sending unit apparently was prone to getting gunked up and would stop functioning, actually had it happen to me once. A bottle of Techron solved the problem and adding it twice a year prevented it from coming back.

I only use Dawn soap to wash off Poison Ivy oil after being in the woods.
