I had a 95 Probe GT back in the 90s (bought it new, traded it in on my Miata in 98 back before I realized just how much you lost doing trade-ins). I thought the seats were very comfy, definitely better than the stock Miata seats were, and didn't notice any steel bars across my back. Perhaps the ones Duke rode in were worn out or modified or broken in some way?

Not sure what to say about the probe. It's a typical 90's ford. Everything will squeak and rattle, and everything plastic will break and crack. The electrical will be sketchy, and the window will randomly drop when it's bizarre cable-winch hand crank window thing gives up the ghost. That said, my RallyX beater has 190k on it and has taken some SERIOUS abuse, and it still runs like a stabbed rat when you put your foot down and actually handles half-way decently. The shifter is all sorts of sloppy, and the blue interior is absolutely wretched, but that just adds to the charm :).

If you can find a cherry garage kept one, it'd be a fun car that you could do a lot with. Otherwise, avoid it like the plague. Just my $.02.

Carl

If you're keeping the klde engine, don't forget to look into the klg4 manifold which yielded great gains across the board.

I was going to offer my advice about the pitfalls..... push it over to a pit and let it fall. Done.

They do have several merits. I've never owned one but since they share a bunch with the MX-6 they can't be that bad.

Really? What a stunningly short sighted view of the world. "I was going to say it's crap because it's a Ford, but because it's got Mazda DNA it can't be all that bad" Wow, just wow.

It's irelivant in the end as after seeing the car, it's just not for me. Great car, but not what i want for a toy.
