Why hasn't this one been done before. Both have done well in the Challenge. Both are affordable. Both are weird and cheap. Both have supporters on the board.

Yugo. I'm quite certain that barring severe engine swaps/subframes/high $$ suspension fab, I could make a Yugo whup the crap out of a Metro pretty easy
Yugo
They are looked at as one of the biggest POSes of all time, but they're one of my best.
I've never been a fan of Metros.
It's easier to find a Suzuki Swift GT Twincam than one of those Lancia Twincams that will drop into the Yugo. But I would love to see somebody here prove me wrong.

What does he keep doing with the key?
I get to vote! I find the Metro too bland looking.. and I an predisposed to italian (and italian based) cars.. so Yugo for me
(I was going to get to the yugo too)

I'd like to see that. I have no Yugo experience, but I know what I can do for almost nothing to a Metro.
The G series motors are like small block chev's for car and part interchangeability, and the metros were available with 1.0, 1.3, and 1.3 16V. The Swift came with the DOHC 1.3, and 1.6 16V. All an easy swap, and a J series can be swapped in with a bit more work, and that gives you 1.8, 2.0, and 2.3 DOHC, with 200 hp naturally aspirated not too far away. All take boost like they were meant for each other. A mildly modified 1.3 DOHC will put you into the 14's, and I have a 3cyl. that will do that. They're not great handling cars stock, but if you don't have to follow class rules, you can make them handle pretty good.
I am appalled by the utter lack of sophistication here. The YUGO? Really?
The Metro, and more especially its progenitor the Chevrolet Sprint is the far superior choice. They are nimble, reliable cars capable of racking up 100's of thousands of trouble-free miles. Yugos break. Want proof? How many Yugos do you see running around today? How many Sprints/Metros? The only Yugos you see today are on life support.
If you're after some demented sort of exclusivity, go for the Yugo. If you want a solid, reliable place to start, go Metro/Sprint.
the Yugo is based on the Fiat 128. The 128 was the first modern FWD (the mini is not a modern FWD design) car with the engine in line with the trans in a transverse design. This gave us Lancia Beta and the Ritmo/Strada.
The Delta was based on the Beta, which gave us the Integrale.
In that respect, the Yugo has a tenious link to one of the most winning rally cars in history
Not only are subarus built like Legos,

This all may be true, but you can't deny the importance of build quality or lack thereof.

i think any car can pull an empty trailer- hell, my 14hp Murray riding mower could do that- the important question is which one is better when an example of the other kind of car (Yugo pulling Metro, Metro pulling Yugo) is on the trailer..
