I'm looking at buying a car in Geogia and bringing it back to Ohio. What will need to be done to the Geogia title?
It sucks that seemingly *every* state has their own process/requirements.....:(
Thanks!

Usually the title just needs to be filled out and signed by the owner. Note, make sure they sign it just like it is on the front. Georgia does require a bill of sale when registering in Georgia as well now, but this may not be needed in Ohio. Your local tag office should be able to tell you what they need.
If needed, here is the Geogia bill of sale BOS
How old it is matters also being from GA. On older cars they don't have a title. Been years but I titled a GA car in FL using a bill of sale and the current GA registration. Things maybe different now.
Get the Georgia bill of sale. You'll be better off having it and not needing than rather than needing it and not having it!
Is the car you're buying so old that it doesn't have a Georgia title?
Wow that seems easy. BOS and a correct signature on the title with no notary. It's an 2000, so probably not old enough to not have a title.
Thanks all!

It will have a title.
IIRC, the cutoff year is 1986. You can get a title for cars older than that, but they don't issue then automatically. You have to apply to the state.
The registration counts as the title for older cars in GA.
Yea Ohio goes by whatever the state it is coming from requires for the title, no bill of sale necessary. You will have to get an out of state inspection which means you take it to the bmv and they verify the vin on the title matches the vin on the car.
I understand the Ohio part (I had a car from Kentucky and had it notarized both on the seller's side and again on my side) and the bmv told me they had to verify the VIN on the title and I would be good. Never having seen a title from Georgia I want to make sure everything gets done on that side correctly as I probably won't be going back to Georgia anytime soon. Might still get a BoS as it can't hurt to have too much paperwork.
Appreciate the help!
I've bought 3 cars, 2008, 2006, and a 2013 in GA with GA titles. Drove them all back to TN and registered and titled them in my name with no issue. I did not have a BOS for any of them.
Good luck
Octavius, did you drive them back with no plates?
Have I heard that as long as you have the title for the car you'll be fine? Or...?
In reply to stan :
I've done 5-6 out of state purchases, and have never bothered with the temp tag. Didn't have any problems driving without a tag. The only time I was pulled over, the title and bill of sale was enough.
Also, if there's more than one owner listed on the title, you need signatures from every owner on the title. Found that out the hard way.
You'll need to log in to post.
