I looked up volvo v8 swap and this thread popped up on Google. All roads lead to GRM.

If I were ever to do a CP Camaro, this sounds like an awesome way to do it.

i know that in internet years that this thread is ancient history, but i've been looking for a 4.8L for the prices i see quoted everywhere on the car magazine websites and in these forums ($100-$250 @85k-120k miles) and i can't find them anywhere for less than $500 unless they've got well over 200k miles on them. please: i want to know where you found your's at $150. where specifically did you find your's and where would be a good place to look?

Prices have certainly been on the rise.

This one was off Craigslist from a truck that had rolled over.

I personally use Craigslist and car-part.com

Damn the timing of this thread... While I'm fairly confident the L98 in the Vette isn't seriously locked, I also happened to see a 4.8 online last night for $600, still in the donor vehicle. If I could pick up the whole thing for sub-$1k that would be a very tempting option.

Depending on your level of fab skills, it would be hard to say no to a swap from an L98 that needs serious help to a 4.8. Do you live in a state where getting it smog checked would make this difficult?

I seriously hope you drop a 4.8L in an early C4 Vette. That would actually be a great swap.

In reply to SyntheticBlinkerFluid:

I'd like to see the torque-curve of the 4.8 vs. the 5.3, and honestly I'd really like an aluminum 5.3 if I'm going through the effort, but if everything for a 4.8/4L60e swap is ~50% less than an aluminum 5.3 it just may be worth considering.

A 4.8 is considerably less than an aluminum 5.3. People think those blocks are gold anymore because they realized the OD of the liners is the same as the ls1/6 so you can bore it out to 5.7. Stupid thing is you can do same to the iron block.

how does $800 sound for a 3rd gen 5.3 truck motor, including harness/ecu/cats? My friend purchased a running one a couple years back and I'm considering getting it from him.
