heres the scenario:

i have a 95 silverado, 5.7 tbi, 4l80e, 3.42 gears.

its running a BJDR bin on a moates adapter and EEPROM successfully to facilitate the 4l80e swap.
have about 2k on the trans swap and bin swap now. pretty solid and reliable now, and im happy with that part.

however....

when i did the swap, i lost 4mpg average. and quite a bit of seat of the pants power. looking at the original BJYK bin, it seems that the main spark table has an average of a 10 degree timing retard with the 4l80e bin over the original bin.

on previous TBI vehicles, ive manually rotated the distributor to bump the timing a few degrees (usually about 4) for seat of the pants power and MPG increase. never noticed much, if any, increased knock retard events with that, but i never datalogged flat towing the race car uphill either.

anyway, what im thinking, and needing help with is this.

im thinking that i want to put the timing tables from BJYK into the BJDR bin, OR somehow otherwise make the BJYK bin operate the 4l80e trans. combing the two or something.

im not sure how to go about this, as im really quite inexperienced at this part. im able to burn a stock .bin, but anything of this level is new to me.

if it matters, truck has a freed up intake track (resonator delete, k&n filter, salad bowl), headers, high flow cat and y pipe and exhaust. 180 thermostat. otherwise stock, and freshened.

so, how do i start down this path? or do i go down this path? Is there a way to copy huge swaths of tables from one bin to another in tunerpro?

I am not completely familiar with this but if I remember correctly there is a timing vs rpm table that can be adjusted in the bin and re sent to the eprom.  It is basicly a look up table that at above a rpm X it has timing Y.

Correct. Theres actually two tables that ive found so far, and many more that probably exist....

Im kinda worried that theres too many timing tables, and that changes in the teo main ones i know of will have unintended consequences...

Im also not sure how to copy and paste all the cells from one bin to another if that's even the way to go forward....

Have i become too odd now? Figure there would be more discussion...

It has been a while since I poked around with these and I only really ever just grasped the basics but I learned a lot from the F body 3rd gen forums, it seemed to have the most activity of all GM "tuners."

Perhaps some searches on the forum can get you more information?

When I did the tuning on my V8 Firefly, I found the ECU had a bunch of different tables all over the place.

Instead of trying to wrap my head around it, I zeroed out the ones I didn't understand, and put a typical SBC timing curve in the main spark advance table.  I think I did something similar with the fuel tables too.

It might not have been optimal, but I could wrap my head around THAT, and it worked.

I messed around with tunerpro years ago when I still had the TPI305 in my trans am and that was the going practice at the time. You can always add back in modifiers later for specific situations.

Maybe it's been too long since I used tunerpro but can't you just copy and paste the spark table?

A good place to start is the Tunerpro website. There seem to be plenty of video tutorials now. I haven't touched it in 5 years, and I was doing LT1 (EE definition) but I know you can adjust timing tables and virtually everything about the ECU within the bin. Even stuff like shift points, when the fans kick on, when EGR valves open, you name it. You have to download the correct definition file for your ECU, which you can get from the Tunerpro website, in order to open and edit a bin using Tunerpro. Then to actually flash the ECU with the new bin, you have to use another program like WinFlash. I was using an adapter cable between OBD port and laptop from 1320electronics who I recall having amazing support service. My ALDL adpater also had bluetooth which I could connect to via a phone app for live datastreaming, which I remember being pretty cool. I'm not familiar with the Moates product, or the TBI ECU, but I imagine they're similar?

Copay and paste spark table: how? I haven't figured that out yet, despite efforts. I know there has to be a way, but....

Maschinebou: care to liknk the videos? Cant seem to find them.on tbeir website. The moats stuff is pretty similar,  and im doing pretty ok with the opening, burning, and datalogging. Just struggling with the modifications of the bin, as well as the "where to start" ness. The nuts and bolts of tuning, and the quirks with tunerpro.

I just punched in "tunerpro modify bin" into the tubes and got this. Such a blast from the past, whoa. Basically its like a file explorer view, with folder structure on the right for the different driving modes like open loop, power enrichment, etc. In those folders are tables of values which you can just edit manually or apply bulk edits to, where you add or multiple to every cell. This video has a demonstration of adding 4 degrees timing to the base spark map around the 5 minute mark.
