Immediately, I thought of buying an ECHO. Then, my focus shifted when a friend of mine reported that their 2005 Mazda 3 had thrown a rod. My Idea is to put the 2.3L engine from a junked 3 or 6 into it, along with a manual and correct ECU swap. The car is $300, and it needs to be towed. Should I take it?
$300 why are you hesitating
one word. hyabusa
No offense OP, but i don't believe this for a second.

Next time I see the car, I'll post pics. No engine, Autotragic transmission, and friend discount all factor in the final price. If I wasn't interested, he'd be scrapping it.

Please post pics of the car with a piece of paper taped to it that says "stop_the_econobox."
edit2 - never mind. My reading comprehension isn't what it used to be. And even then, it wasn't very good.
go for it.
For $300?? Uh, hell yeah you should. You could part it/scrap it if you had to and make money. So there's no risk.

sounds good to me. He ticked the boxes for the sport wheels, Moonroof, and leather. Any idea how much I can get off the seats alone?
Screw parting it out, that thing is clean! Buy a JY engine/trans for $1000 and swap it all in. You'd have a nearly-new DD for less than Challenge money!

I'm not the best with engine terminology. What car would a JY come out of?
JY = Junk Yard
Just pit in another stock engine.

A junk yard.
You guys should spoon feed the troll some more.
I think I would find a wrecked manual car and swap it over to a real transmission. That thing looks to be in excellent condition - how the heck did he manage to throw a rod in one of those? They're pretty bulletproof. (Maybe forgot to change the oil, for say, 70,000 miles?)
Here's one source
My friend has some low-production ferrari, so unpopular they only made 400 of them before they realized they couldn't sell any more. The cigarette lighter went out so he wants to sell it to me for $500. Should I buy it?
If this is real I would buy for $300, Install junkyard engine for $1000 and Sell on market for an easy $6,000 profit. I mean sure a Manual trans 3 is fun and all but you can flip it and buy a lot more fun than a Manual trans Mazda 3

Yeah man, then swap an Echo motor in it.

Yeah!! Maybe then it would be worth something, since it would keep running for more than a few days at a time.
