I thought that with the accumulated experience here there are a ton of engine builders/ tuners/race shops etc that have been used. I'd love to see a list of different ones to either use or avoid based on others experience.
I'll start
For anything subaru engine related, I can't tell you how great outfront motorsports have been. Besides being incredibly knowledgeable, they are great teachers. They have spent hours on the phone with me explaining everything to me, and helping me work through problems on my frankenfiat project. Helpful doesn't begin to describe how great they are. WHile most of there business is building engines for high end sand rails, they can work with you on anything. On a side note, if you've never taken a ride in a 450 hp, 1600 lb sand rail with 20+ inches of suspension travel, you're really missing out. Insane speed over any terrain.
On the other end of the spectrum has been z1 motorsports These guys say they are experts on all things nissan, but it's been a joke/nightmare. My brother has been trying to get one of there stage 2 engines in a customers car for 9 months, and he's about to pull the engine for the 3rd time because of various issues.
