My earliest car memories are of my parents having a brown woody Torino wagon, and brown Pinto coupe. That probably would have been around 73-74. I know we still had the Pinto through at least 76, but strangely I have no memory of what happened to the Torino.
When I was a kid my mom had a blue Gran Torino that she gave to my older brother when he started driving. He always talked about painting it like the Starsky and Hutch car. It ended up with hi jacker shocks, slot mags and side pipes. He lost oil pressure and burned up the engine, I think the car committed suicide out of embarrassment.
Just a little update: I am currently considering legal action against Ford for not replacing the Torino's fuel pump under warranty. The cheap thing crapped out after a just 47 years of service and left me stranded.
I finally had some time to drive the two hours east to my in-laws house where the Torino has been parked for the last month after the Charlotte run. The plan was to ride to my in-laws with my wife and kids yesterday after work, then I would immediately drive the Torino back home on my own. I made it 3/4 of the way home.
A 50 yard walk to a gas station, half a bottle of sweet tea, and a hour later, a flat bed showed up. I can't wait to get home and start working on it! Buying a new in-stock fuel pump at Advance for under $20 will be a refreshing change from what I normally work on. And thanks to the recommendation in this thread, title paperwork and a Vermont license plate are on the way for the Cobra Jet.
In reply to Apis Mellifera :
I didn’t chime in earlier re the title issues, but I think buying a car from an estate is probably one of the easiest scenarios for getting a clean title.
also, berkeley yeah! I love me some small-bumper Gran Torino!

You could do a class action suit. There are probably at least 2 other people around the world thinking the exact same thing this month.
God, I've been looking for a 70-72 Torino for years. Each time I've found one the seller backs out or just refuses to send pictures of the damn thing.
I looked for 20 years before I found one that was not rotted out and cheap enough to buy. My extra '72 will be on eBay once the title gets here.
So who bought the MGB that you and I have been trying to make a deal on for the last five years?!? Just kidding, I don’t really want to know lol.
those Torino’s look great!
Oh god, why is that Torino looking like a cool car to me now. Must be the coupla moonshine/lemonade/tea combos I've consumed. Which, come to think of it, seem entirely appropriate to a Gran Torino.
