If you routed the compressed air from the rear turbo into the front turbo it would provide compound boost

Has anyone here done a remote mount yet?
I'm thinking after I get MS on the Alfa, I'd like to do a remote mount turbo. I would definitely like to do a closed oiling system.
The oil pump is still the biggest question. I'd rather not spend $170-ish on a Tilton or Mocal pump if I could find an alternative for less than $100.
I did some research a while back and to really get a good oil pump the price was kinda steep. $300-400. I see the pump and its plumbing being the main failure point. Could bleed the engine dry if they failed

My thought is if I had enough room below the turbo to have a baffled accumulator/sump, ran from there to an oil cooler, then to the pump, the oil temp should never be much higher than 130F.
A cheap ShurFlo is rated for 180F and if I ran a nice low viscosity synthetic oil, it wouldn't be much thicker than water.

The book "Maximum Boost" talks about an oil return pump for situations like this, one thats powered by the feed oil pressure to provide return oil pressure.
I made a kit for my ranger. I used a T fitting off the oil press sensor and ran a 1/4 inch line to the turbo and i used this pump return the oil to the valve cover.

I don't plan on running tons of boost, the engine is a 12v 2.5l V6 with 9.0:1 CR.

For what it is worth... Our $2009 Challenge "Porvette" had a rear mounted turbo! Unfortunately we had significant electrical problems that have so far prevented the car from runing well enough to benefit from the turbo. We are planning on bringing it back for 2010 if we can solve the issues and stay under budget.
With all the talk of a sump. Why not avoid using engine oil and use a dedicated sump and pump for the turbo? I suspect, but don't know for sure, that if you use a ballbearing turbo the need for higher oil pressure would be minimal.Would need just enought to circulate through the bearings. Since the turbo is not getting to 800-1000 degress the need for the oil to cool the turbo (water was out of the question anyway in a remoute mount) is also not needed.

Was bummed to see the remote system pulled off for the drags. Hadn't even realized it was there :)
My favorite picture is the one that shows the leaky power steering.... Ive been around several high mileage fords and every one of them was rust proofed thanks to leaky power steering!
pretty cool idea though, since you are replacing the muffler with the turbo how does that factor in...boost, less restriction...seems like a good idea...I bet it sounds awesome!
We thought that the restriction from the turbo might have been causing the problem that we were having, so we pulled it off for the drags. It turned out that we had a blown fuse leading to the mass air sensor that was putting the system into "limp home" mode. However replacing the fuse seems to shut off the O2 sensors from working. It still isn't running right.
I am not surprised that you didn't notice the rear turbo... we had a dummy air filter in the engine bay, and the intake plumbing went completely through the filter and into the fenderwell. It looked like it deadended at the filter. It then went through the fender, through the passenger side foot well, and then back up the undrside of the tunnel. Looked pretty cool, but as yet doesn't work.
I'll have to check what the turbo size is. It was a swap meet purchase and is a t3/t4 hybrid, but that is all that I remember off the top of my head. The brand is XS Power, which is much maligned on the internet, but it was new and cheap!
BTW it was a "Split window" Porvette ...so it was a '63 looking 944!
I got a remote turbo system on my 82,1.8L OPEL coupe , been about 1 1/2 yrs runs great at 10psi boost, all homade, i use an Advance gerotor fuel pump for scavange, around 10K miles ,, so far so good.
it is the simplest system and cheapest, turbo sizing seems to be important, just use common sense and go at it!!
