Gordon Murray Automotive has introduced their next supercar, the T33.  Compared to the T50 it's more conventional - two seats instead of three, no active fan aero, and so on.  It's also very pretty.  Several YouTube channels dropped new videos about it today, this is a link to Harry's Garage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILycsqvRnb4

What a pleasant surprise. I find this a little more appealing than the T50, and a breath of fresh air compared to the increasingly fussy and digital offerings from Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren.

Not the usual thing that comes to mind when T33 is mentioned.

I thought of this...

When Harry asked Gordon about the significance of T33, he said they just liked that number.  smiley

I like the idea of it, and I like it overall, but for some reason the T.50 at $3M seems like a better buy to me than the T.33 at $1.75M... I can't really explain why though.

While he talks about doing this as a car with elegant styling inspired (in a non-retro way) by 60's sports racers, I feel like the similarly elegant (and 1/6 the price) Ferrari 296 is not only more soul stirringly beautiful, but does a better job capturing that essence too. The T.33 should be the better 'drivers car' though.

A few years ago Gordon Murray was talking about also making an affordable (~$50k-ish) lightweight sportscar. I got my hopes up for that to actually happen. Man I was dumb.

It's easier to be successful starting your lineup from the top down than it is from the bottom up.

True, but I watched the new Top Gear interview and he said specifically that Gordon Murray Automotive will never make more than 100 examples of any car they produce. So, kinda doubt those economics make sense for a $50k car.

At one point I think he was also designing a city car for basic transportation. It's a shame we wont see some of his genius applied to cars regular people can buy.

I remember that too. It certainly is a shame. Unfortunately, the economics and market realities of a small niche brand making a product for the masses just doesn't really work.

He's probably hoping a big OEM would hire his design services.

In Harry's video I think he said they would be making 300 of this car.  They also briefly show a picture of that city car, as well as some sort of boxy delivery van thing.

100 of the coupe 100 convertible and 100 of something else likely a targa.

If you have the nuts for this you can buy a T50. In fact allegedly 50 of the T50 owners also bought a T33 with a chunk of them going for the ungraded track suspension.
